Hi we was thinking of holding a DJ competition one Friday night next month...

What ideas does any one have on this and how much interest would we get ?

We would like a regular DJ or DJ's for a Friday night on a regular basis.

Maybee even a fun couple who would like to DJ together.

Ideas please? Thank you

I'd say it depends on your club's demographic.... IMHO a DJ'ing competition isn't likely to attract entries from people who play happy go-luck familiar 'let's throw some shapes' type music ...but more likely cutting edge tunes. That's great if your members are into cutting edge hip tunes...personally, we'd rather hear music we're familiar with at a club.

We would like to get some one or a couple to play all types of music but engage with people and get them dancing and play what the crowd wants.

I see from your profile that your music nights cover a variety of music from various decades.

As someone who DJ'd in gay & straight venues I was always fussy about what type of clubs I attended as I favoured clubs where DJ's could "mix" their tracks seemlessly & not the party or seaside town DJs who were more "personality" jocks that chatted between tracks. I'd rather spend a night dancing to beats than listening to someone talking between discs.

Good luck with the competition & hope it goes well.

Agree with what people have said different age groups have totally different music taste used to Dj a lot at weddings etc and always found hard work to please everyone . As my taste in music is deep house / Ibiza beats which wouldn't work at a wedding . But good idea to gauge what people like and not like so prob worth a try good luck

Speaking as someone who has played swingers clubs I would say it's a pretty hard gig. Run of the mill stuff with a bit of chart is what is normally required.

I'd love to try out for you some time. Iv been a dj since 1988 for Mecca night clubs. You can hear me on soundcloud djneilhowell & djnhs. My pleasure is pleasing who ever turns up. I find room for every body's taste...

To be honest I prefer background music at a club or something easy listening. I am not there for the music (Mrs.)
