Hi,
I'm heading down to London in March and was thinking of going along to Sweet Wednesday. Anyone been? And can offer some advice to a single, very non-scene, non-club guy?
I guess I'm quite shy at first so slightly worried I'll just end up propped against a wall in a corner looking like a frightened rabbit!
And do I needto be a seven-foot muscle-bound Adonis? Or is a 'normal' slightly geeky guy going to cut it?!
Thanks

It's actually a pretty small venue downstairs and can get quite busy. It is easy enough to stand around the bar area and look for people to chat to although there is also usually quite a lot of "activity" going on. You are free to wander around. Some are very open and are happy to do pretty much anything anywhere. Others prefer the more discrete curtained off booths. It is definitely more at the sleazy end of the scale. Your call as to whetehr yo think that's a good thing or a bad thing. |

Blimey. Can't tell whether to be terrified or not!
No idea if there's anywhere else less scary I should be considering on a Wednesday night in th big city.
On the other hand, sounds like it could be a real eye opener! |

There's no need to be terrified of going there. And you will have the choice of what you do. There is a bar down there (small) and a seating area where you can sit and watch or chat. Or just as easy to go for a wander around the place. There is a fair bit of wandering that goes on so you wouldn't stand out in any way. Well, I suppose that depends on how much you like what you see. |

Not long now! Really looking forward to it now that I've decided to make the most of my night in the big city and head along.
Still nervous but sure I'll get over that.
Anyone else going along on the 18th?

The good thing for me about Sweet Wednesday is that it is held in the basement of the 'Central Station' public house. If the basement with its small bar area and the adjacent 'play rooms' are too frenetic then I can go upstairs to the bar, sit down, have a drink and perhaps a bite to eat and relax. I might even get to chat to some nice people too! |

There's nothing to be nervous or anxious about mate. It will be fine. There are probably far more intimidating places to go to pop your club cherry so relax and enjoy it. What time are you thinking of going along? |

Earlier is better. 7pm is heading towards when they close and more likely to be a bit quieter quicker. I would try to get there closer to 6 if I were you. |

I was only thinking about whether you went or not and how you got on. How busy was it and what did you think? How did it compare to what you thought it would be like? |

It was pretty busy right up until close, with a good crowd in. I was pretty terrified to start with, but everyone was very welcoming.
Was probably smaller than I was expecting, but was a lot of fun. |
