Birkenhead/Liverpool

Just want to remind you all that we have a Food Bank collection point at Townhouse. We collected 171kgs of food just before Christmas and I'd like to think that we made a small difference. Thanks to everybody who helped us achieve this amazing goal!

If you are thinking of joining us sometime, then please keep this in mind and chuck a tin of beans or something in your play bag

We get certificates off the food bank when we drop off big loads and these are displayed on reception, so you can see that we are doing our bit.

So here are some things that we can take:

All non perishable food, i.e. dried pasta, rice, cous cous, tinned fruit/beans/spaghetti/puddings/veg

Cereal

Long life milk

Noodles

cooking sauces

Powdered foods like custard, angel delight

They are also delighted when they receive nappies! We dropped off approx 10 packs of nappies before xmas and you'd think it was 10 bars of gold!! So nappies, wipes, nappy bags are also accepted.

You don't need to splash out, own brand stuff is fine or stuff in your cupboard that you probably won't use.

We started this in October 2014 and we have made 14 drops to the food bank now. We want to continue throughout 2015 so your support would be brilliant.

Maybe other clubs could do the same? Give a little something back?

Thanks all for reading

Vicky xx

just want to say again, the food bank was amazed by the contribution. It was rejected from the first place we tried to drop it off at as it was too large, so got told to take it to the warehouse.

I think there should be a slave auction every month (or week - I'm easy!) to raise more money for them

Brilliant to hear. I'm there next month for the social, I'm sure if there's a reminder nearer the time you'll get some more too! I'll bring some anyway.

Well done again, I love anything charity related!

It's really easy! We have a small dumpster with a sign to remind people and it's sort of out of the way, but not so much that it's not seen. We don't 'hard sell' while people are in the club, we just leave the sign and dumpster in situ...people talk about it, it goes in our newsletter and before you know it, the dumpster is full.

You will find in your area, that there are smaller drop off points for small loads, like churches and social clubs, but if you have a large load, they won't take it, so you will need to take it to your local food bank depot. If you type in Food bank Midlands, you local depots should pop up.

Good luck! xx

What a great idea. Hope this catches on in the clubs up north.

Would be more than happy to contribute.
