Where we are on the Wirral, there are quite a few socially deprived areas and we want to help in a way, which does not involve us collecting money, due to the security and organisation needed to handle the money.
So we are starting a food bank collection point. We have chatted to the local food bank in Birkenhead and also the North Liverpool Food bank as both are under a lot of pressure to keep up with the high demand; they are delighted that we are starting this collection point and we have said that we will split the donations equally between the 2 areas.
So if you would like to help then they are looking for non perishable goods or goods with long shelf lives on them. Just pop something in your kit bag, bring it along and place it in our food bank dumpster which will located in the corridor heading out to the the smoking area.
You can purchase own brand things really reasonably, so maybe an extra item every now and then in your shopping basket could be manageable?
Not just anyone can claim a food parcel. They need to be identified as living in crisis by a health visitor, GP, social services, the CAB and the police. Then they are issued with a voucher which is presented to the food bank and they receive a hamper of food to feed their family based on the number within their household, stated on their voucher.
Here is a list of items that they recommend:
Cereal
UHT Milk
Carton Fruit Juice
Tinned Soup
Tinned Veg
Tinned Fruit
Tinned meals (like stew, chicken tikka etc...)
Dried Pasta
Rice
Cous cous
Pasta Sauce/Pasta in Sauce
Tinned Rice Pudding/Other Tinned Puddings
Baked Beans
Tinned Spaghetti
Teabags
Instant Coffee
Instant Mash
Tinned Tuna/mackeral/kippers etc...
Tinned meat
Jam
Biscuits/snack bars
Lets give something back and use our love for kink to help people in the community who are living, literally on the breadline. Tell your friends and spread the word
