Over the past few days we have heard more and more about Kestrels hippo club, especially when we we're at Kestrels ourselves.
We've heard both the good and bad said about the hippo club
We just wondered what it was, can anyone join, and what other peoples views are.

From what I gather and from what I've seen personally on several occasions at Kestrels(and Abfabs) , it's a 'gang' of larger women who established themselves after a rather unkind review referring to the number of big women in the pool making it look like a gathering of hippos.
Now, I'm a bigger woman myself so was appalled by the review. However, the backlash seems to have been that these women are as loud and raucous as they can be just to prove a point... that being 'we're fat, we're proud and f*ck you if you don't like it'.
The result has been a huge change in the ambience of Kestrels whenever they're there. We've left early on several occasions because we just couldn't put up with the noise and crude banter. If we wanted that, we'd take a wander down Southampton High St at pub kick out time on a Saturday night.
We're all for people enjoying themselves in whatever way they choose but this lot just don't know when enough is enough. Bouncing a ball off the roof of the swimming pool so that everyone below is deluged with cold water droplets is NOT our idea of fun.
I'm sure plenty will disagree with us though and will love the idea of shrieking, screaming and yelling in a swingers spa. |

Just as a 'PS'
I'm sure individually, the women in the Hippo Club are very nice so I'm not slamming them as such. People often act differently when part of a group and that's what may be happening in this case. |
