I've been trying to recall some of the clubs which have come and gone in the Manchester area over the years since I first went to Adam + Eves, I think about 24/25 years ago.
Can anyone remember any ones I've missed?
The Boardroom on Cheltenham Street off Broughton Road.
????????? on Lower Broughton Road (opposite the undertakers!).
Connections on Ashton Old Road, I think. I've had a look on Google Streetview and I can't see anything that looks like the location. Can anyone give me a location?
I think there was another club open and closed in quick succession, in the same area.
Xanadu, in a basement that must have once been a night club, roughly opposite the Travelodge on Blackfriars St, but parking and rear entrance from Booth St.
Any more? |

Went to Boardrooms once, felt very unsafe, bad atmosphere !!
Was Xanadus not once a restaurant and it went back to being a restaurant for a while post swing club ?
Was there not a small swingers club not far from Cupids towards Eccles? Not A&Es. Heard about it but never went.

Connections wasn't on the Old Road, it was just on a side street - Cornwall St I think.
There was a 'naturist' sauna about a mile from Cupids - can't remember it's name. We went once, it smelled as if something had died in the steamroom.
Club Manchester, at first near Strangeways, then on Rochdale Road.
The sauna in Cheadle was probably the Alpine.
There was also a sauna in Prestwich that was mixed - It may have been called the California.
The Pennine in Shaw had a mixed day over 20 years ago and still does. |

"Connections wasn't on the Old Road, it was just on a side street - Cornwall St I think." I've managed to tie it down! It was on Old Lane, just off Ashton Old Road. It looks, from StreetView, like the area was flattened to make way for the Lime Square shopping centre, BUT there is a photo of the club or at least the sign on the building (the pic is ©2010, but I don't know when it was taken).

"I've been trying to recall some of the clubs which have come and gone in the Manchester area over the years..."
The common thread to this is the Scottish guy who opened and ran these clubs (Jim?)
Yes there is a ???? in the sequence between the Boardroom and Connections, but blow me down if I can remember the name (mainly because that was the one club I didn't go to back then.) |

My first ever visit to a swinger club was the Adam & Eve (Eccles) circa 1987/88. In those days I used to go as a single but had some really great nights there. Dave & Sue (who later set up Cupids) were the owners and Irish Tony pretty much ran the place. I heard that he eventually bought it but not 100% sure.
I first went to the Boardroom in '93 (ish) as a couple with a FB of mine at the time. As I remember the owner was called Billy and used to have a small boxing gym next to the changing room, and who can forget the rickety old walkway that was like an old railway carriage link between 2 parts of the building I went there quite a lot in the mid 90's both as a single and with a couple of FB's.
After a break from swinging I eventually got back into it as a couple with my partner in '99 and we visited quite a few clubs in the North West, including A&E, Boardroom, Xanadu, Liasons, Partners, and mostly at that time Cupids, there were one or two other clubs that came and went but I can't remember the names.
I parted company with the ex then pissed off abroad and now back on the scene for the last 4 years with my current partner.
That's my history, 25 years (on and off) in the swinging scene and loved every minute of it.
