Dress code for clubs

How do you like to dress for clubs? I have attended a number of clubs now and always spend ages choosing my undies and outfit to wear over the top.

I am occasionally surprised to see what some men feel is acceptable. Jeans trainers and tshirt.

What are other peoples opinions. Especially if the clubs website states no jeans traibers etc

A pet hate of ours! If it says dress smart then dress smart it should be, the ladies make the effort so why shouldn't the guys? MrH always dresses smart for a club even if it is a towel down club. One of the most enjoyable nights we had at a club was New Year's Eve at Xtasia because all the men had suits on and looked really good and sexy to be honest!

I usually travel in a dress,

then dress down to another dress, either shorter/lace/ highly suggestive and possibly have something with even less material for later

I dont think jeans should be permitted in any club at any time

i () always try and go for some nice underwear with something simple yet sexy and "easy" slipped over the top. then like saturday with lots of woman dress alike. i still get the feeling over being under dress as the guys stand there in shirts and trousers.

Attending first club soon and no idea what to wear.

Ok well not quite no idea, but I can imagine me looking through my wardrobe and then buying something new, cause I have nothing!

Typical woman.

I see a lot of posts where people have mentioned seeing people wearing scruffy clothes and trainers in clubs where there is a dress code and I think that the staff should really turn them away, if they have a dress code then they should insist people stick to it

Fet events aside my normal clubing atire is smart jeans, either DM's or brothel creepers and a shrt. Sometimes with a tie and/or braces, sometimes not. crystal normally wears a 50's style dress and heels. The colours of our outfits will always compliment the others choice.

I never wear a suit and to be honest if someone at a club would choose not to play with us based on me not being in a suit and having not made an effort then frankly they are doing us a favour...

To be honest it wasn't your post as it was clear that you meant make an effort rather than dress scruffy and my response was to the other posts - it makes me laugh that apparently making an effort equates to wear a suit. I don't get it. Do people really have that little imagination?

personally I think this is quite an old fashioned view (generically talking), I am 38, well presented male, when going to a club I will wear smart jeans, very smart shoes and a crisp ironed shirt, perhaps with a suit jacket dependant on weather. Jeans dont make the person, its how you wear the jeans

yea, in our opinion though its an outdated and stuffy reason. I always laugh at clubs that will let in a scum bag in a pair of stay press Farahs or Chino's (urgh) and would keep me out in a really well put together , smart, modern outfit. IMHO only

Because a swinging club is so comparable to a wedding or a funeral...

So the man that takes the jeans off and presumably walks around in boxers, you seriouslyy feel that that constiutes making an effort?

No, it means he couldn't read the basic requirements of the dress code. If the guy doesn't want to take his jeans off he has a choice. It is all a bit of fun and for a good cause. Why are you always so deadly serious?

We did not say guys should wear suits, we simply stated that one of the best nights we had at a club was when everyone was wearing a suit and it made it a very sexy atmosphere.

Several clubs state no jeans but still let people in with jeans. The truth is everyone has a different idea of what smart is. Some people may wear trendy jeans and a Henley type t-shirt, mega buck trainers and their outfit may have cost several hundred pounds, yet another guy may think he is smart in a George shirt and trousers so everyone has their own idea. For us it is when it clearly states no jeans or trainers yet people are allowed in wearing them.

Have we been transported back to the 80s?! Where you have to wear shoes, trousers and a collar to get into a club?!

Nightclubs have moved with times and fashion, and swingers clubs should too. No jeans is ridiculous.

We always dress to impress clubs or just in our everyday lives I the male love clothes I always wear jeans ( I have about 15 pairs none of which cost less than £100) never ever with trainers nice shoes Jeffrey wests or Oliver Sweeney shoes perhaps a nice shirt and jacket or a nice v neck pull over and I think I look smart so jeans I'm my opinion are smart casual, gilly always looks stunning with a nice dress an heels, I spend a lot of money on looking and smelling nice and smart is very subjective, I agree jeans trainers and a t-shirt to me is not smart, but the clubs I have been to I have not seen that, but saying jeans are not smart in my opinion is not right and I think we all need to move with the times

Guess I will try it then,

I will go out in jeans, and leave my expensive/ hunted high and low for, dresses in my wardrobe, along with my equally sought after shoes.

After all, it is just sex, so if I want sex I have to get at least partially undressed at some point

I think it's about dressing appropriately, no one is suggesting that a lady should go dressed in jeans, I myself live seeing a lady in an elegant sexy dress with heels, but in my opinion suits would be to formal. We as a couple are in our early forties and dress appropriately for our age in smart casual for the man and sexy for the lady

At the end of the day and as an answer to the op's question...

If a club owner has set a standard of no denim, then that is the expectation.

Each club is different and has different standards, if I did not agree to a club's rules I wouldn't attend.

Was that not a black tie theme? See to me that's totally different and I'd have loved that.

But I am still pretty incredulous at this belief that only a suit equates to making an effort. As others have said it is like a throw back to the 80's.

It's interesting though that on another thread VA is getting referred to as both classy and upmarket but has no problem with smart denim.

It is strange but men think just wearing a shirt and trousers is getting dressed .Why can't you guys be different ,maybe wear some leather or just something that makes you stand out from the crowd .So many things guys could wear but then see through tops and dressing a bit more rocky maybe just my like for my man

An interesting debate, one we have at the door most nights! Jeans, trainers and Tshirts. As a nightclub the standard response used to be "Sorry, please come back with shirt and tie" but we all know those days are gone. Any of the three above can cost well over £100 these days, and be very respectable, smart, and attractive. A t-shirt doesn't make you a scruff, a scruffy t-shirt does. We've given our door staff power to make an informed call, and also give out a "yellow card" if needed, "Please tidy up for next visit, look how much effort your lady has put into getting ready" and then record the warning on our entry system. Next time, we're looking out for them, if tidy, warning removed. Has to be down to common sense in all honesty. Some people travel 200 plus miles to visit a club, would you really turn them away for a rip in the jeans if clean and tidy? More importantly these days is personal hygiene, but guess thats another topic

I know I certainly dont feel comfy dressed up to the nines in lbd and sexy heels and the guy attempting to come on to me looking like he came from work or walking the dog. Bog standard jeans tshirt and trainers.

Its similar if all the people are fully dressed and your the only one naked. It can make you feel uncomfy xx

"An interesting debate, one we have at the door most nights!

What a sensible policy I've got t-shirts that cost £300 and I believe they look very smart will have to give your club a look soon

A Tshirt costing £300? I bet no one could tell that by looking at it though!

If I like something I but it "

I'd feel uncomfortable if everyone was clothed and there was 1 random naked chick wandering around, how bizarre!

Personally, doesn't bother me if a guy wears jeans, as long as they are smart

What a refreshing and pro-active attitude, and particularly like the yellow card system.

Its good to see some common sense coming out of clubs about this, scruffy is what should be banned not "X" item of clothing, I think given the huge range of styles and types of jeans banning them wholesale is a little odd, as long as the person is smart and not scruffy that should be all that matters.

Its the tattered jeans, scruff trainers and dirty T shirts that need to be stopped imo!

A seaside town near you!

"I usually travel in a dress,

then dress down to another dress, either shorter/lace/ highly suggestive and possibly have something with even less material for later

I dont think jeans should be permitted in any club at any time

personally I think this is quite an old fashioned view (generically talking), I am 38, well presented male, when going to a club I will wear smart jeans, very smart shoes and a crisp ironed shirt, perhaps with a suit jacket dependant on weather. Jeans dont make the person, its how you wear the jeans "

Well said!!! Smart classy jeans can nicely show a pert bottom yum!!

The only club i go to is Chams and i wear a towel as does my husband.

We would never go to a club where people wear clothes and especially if they have a no jeans dress code

If a man turned up for a meet with me wearing trousers or "slacks" then i would leave straight away as they do nothing for me at all

I like clean men in jeans, t shirt and especially in converse

Yum

As a dedicated wearer of jeans to do with my lifestyle look, I would never wear trousers to a club. If people can't/won't accept me for who I am, then to be honest I don't want to know them anyway. All this absolute bollocks about 'chinos' and '£300' t shirts is shite. Of course some people may check that my clothes are of 'the right standard' but that's their standard not mine'! Grow up, get a life and stop being a zombie led by 'Hello' magazine. Accept there are different looks other than 'chav' and get on with the fucking, FFS!

We've avoided going to a couple of clubs because the dress code sounded pretentious. I prefer to see people smart, but insisting on certain things doesn't guarantee that - much better for people to be comfortable in my opinion.

On the flip side the first time we went to Chams a woman commented 'you arrived dressed like that?!' (was wearing a corset). But we like Chams partly because of the dress code.. or lack of it
