Torquay- Within Temptations

We are so confused- why is Within Temptations not hopping?!! It is clean, not expensive, large, well equipped, hotel availability is great. Either we are totally missing something or people are missing out on what appears to be a good venue.
We have been a couple of times and sadly only a handful of people each time. We just do not understand it

I believe it is open to non- members. In answer to the single men comment. I have seen single men be treated respectfully and sensible rules in place to ensure spaces are used by couples and single men have to be invited- as a couple this is fantastic and fair. |

I believe you were there last night the same time as I was as a single guy. Everyone was really friendly and was nice to meet people, it was a shame I didn't get to experience anything else but agree it's a great venue, just needs more people. There were a few couples who came and went, I reckon if they'd all stayed around and waited for each other it would have gotten much steamier. Would be interested to see it at a big event night |

In think the way it was being run from when they first opened (before latest up Management) had ruined it's reputation from the start. We'd been told by several couples to avoid it for several reasons mainly being that on couples nights they kept letting in pissed up single guys off the street that would then cause havoc.
We did meet a couple recently who said that the new management have really turned it around in regards to how it run and that it just needs people. What doesn't help is that there's a more established club just down the road.
They'd attract soooo many more if they'd just move to Exeter. |

OP why not try one of the other clubs locally? They are all clean and large, inexpensive and also well equipped also but more importantly supported by the local community and you don't have to pay for membership at any of them. Secrets not far from Torquay almost always attracts 50 ish couples or more and highly regarded (we have been and would recommend)
Steamers seems to be getting a good word of mouth from people now it's changed its single guy protocol. We've been and had a good amount of people in attending and would go again.
Utopia also has a new venue opening not a million miles away early this year.
We've not been as its not open yet but we went to one or two of their's previously and are well organised and supported by a good foot fall and gust list both times.
From the impression we're hearing, seeing and reading its going to be well supported come opening night. |

Yep, if it's a strange one. We heard all the horror stories when they first opened. Unfortunately once somewhere gets a bad reputation it takes a long time to undo the damage.
Sounds like it's a lot better now and if we were having a night out in Torquay we'd certainly give it a go IF we thought the place was going to be busy. That's the catch-22.
I also wonder if there are enough of us to support two venues in one town that are open every weekend? Especially when we already have Secrets and Club Utopia which you can pretty much guarantee will be well attended. |

I've tried to persuade S to give WT another go but she won't do it. Main objections are (1) every time we went it was nearly empty (2) also freezing cold, (3) the hot tub water was filthy and the plastic steps dangerous, (4) the changing room floor was soaking wet, which is revolting and a sure fire way to get a verruca or athletes foot. |

We are in Torquay for a long weekend on 3rd Feb and was looking to visit within temptation.. being out of town we wanted to contact them about entrance etc.. but the website needs sign up, no published telephone number and although we emailed 19 days ago, as yet no reply.
So…. Where’s the other club in Torquay? |

The other Torquay club is Swingers Quay at Steamers Sauna. Google steamerquay (as can't post url here).
Friday 3rd Feb is Taboo which is a mixed night with kink bias, inc some TV/TS folks.
Saturday 4th is their weekly swingers night. **
Steamers is way better than that other place and always busy and fun.
** just a word of warning. Sat 4th is also the opening night of Club Utopia which is held near Chudleigh. This may well impact the number of people at Steamers that night as everyone and his dog seems to be headed there. |

Never been (only to Steamers) but had a meet with a couple who told me their minds were blown by Temptations: they walked in and were overwhelmed by all the bodies going at it!
I'll tell them about this thread. |

We went quite a while ago (may of changed now). But find our review on their review page. I hope for WT sake it has changed as everything we wrote in the review was exactly how we found it. And if it’s right that a bad rep will stick then that’s why it’s so quiet. |

I have been to WT a few times and it has been mostly quiet but busy on one of those occassions. I dont know what it was like before but now as a venue its great (well stocked fair priced bar, great clean facilities etc) and the staff are lovely and accomodating. Its just the numbers. IMO it just needs a few 'influencial couples' (yes you know you exist! ) to pull a few of your friends together and I can guarantee you will have a great time. You will be protected from any single interference but tbf the other singles I have met there have all been the respectful sort so you have the option of including them if you want but no pressure.
Come on folks lets get this place humming!! |

Could it be that there are just not that many people who go to clubs? We have been to Xtasia a couple of times on a Saturday night when it was relatively empty, despite being a great club with a massive potential catchment area. We have also been to Hellfire on a Saturday night which was far from packed. Secrets was packed when we visited though, as was Le Boudoir. That being said, you only have to make one connection for a good night and we have had great nights just dancing and playing with each other. We do have a trip to Torquay planned on a non Secrets weekend so will watch this thread with interest. |

"Utopia seems bloody expensive for couples i thought, never paid that, chams in Birmingham amazing and cheaper. "
Why do you say that seems to be in line with the majority of other places we've looked at or visited?
Can't even say it's a relevant comment as those venues are in a different part of the country and travel and accommodation would have to be a factor would it not?
See the problem here for us and WT is a bit two fold
1. WT seems to have alienated the majority of local couples and female club go'ers for one reason or another - can't say we have experienced people having a good word to say about it past and present but horror stories are far and wide? If you piss people off or they have had a bad experience then they'll simply not want to go back.
2. The area has a limited population of swingers and there are now 3 other venues in the same catchment area. Sorry but none are going to be full and opening every weekend for 1-2 nights is stretching your client base even further. Best scenario would be to work around each other rather than fight each other both on dates and interests but even saying that is there enough meat on the bone for all to be well attended or more importantly survive? Seems like history repeating itself.
To us it seemed ludicrous to ignore the currently open and established venue that had been on the market and set up their own a stone's through from it. WT's owners seemed to have a wierd unrealistic cash cow outlook to the client base with bonkers membership fees and pritty poor management decisions on how to run or treat its customers at the beginning.
The location is far from ideal as not discreet and its been all over the papers so not marketed itself well. We've heard of people being heckled on the way in and out.
Another thing that really puts us off is the glowing reviews on here by the profiles related to the staff!?!? and the desperate measures taken or dirty the reputation of the other venues isn't the done thing. All to try and get people to attend in one way or another. We where at a social locally last year where an individual related to WT arrived and was going around the room trying to encourage people to all leave early? We got the impression that a lot of people people took a bit of a dim view and seen it as both desperate and not exactly fair or the done thing.
It was put earlier in the thread that we "couple's" should support it but why exactly? Can't say it's won meny people's favor we know and believe that even if we did go it would be empty and friends or acquaintances would not be willing to join us there? As for people we don't know well the meets and club reviews section is telling us it's not really supported or attended by meny at all?
Even at a time when secrets was closed and utopia was operating in a different area there was a lot of people people we know who didn't want to go to WT? This could have even been pre steamers "guys have to come with a couple" rule that really has improved the atmosphere? On that note we've also witnessed couples arriving at steamers late having left WT because it was too quiet when steamers had been reasonably attended so it's kind of speaking for itself.
Let's be honest we now have 4 venues all in the same area 3 it seems that are liked and supported maybe the question is we are better off supporting them?
We like any other couple or individual only have a limited amount of time and money. We can only really afford to go 1 or 2 nights a month max. where is any couple or lady in their right mind going to go? The one that thay like but more importantly is full or well supported in numbers it's a no brainer really.
You go to a club or event to meet with other people don't matter what bells and whistles a club has end of the day. its the combination of the people and the atmosphere that make a difference

" we tried a lot of the clubs down here, found some poorly attended, very clicky and unwelcoming and one that was known for people using the white powder. Chams was about hour and a quarter for us, didn't stay over so only fuel cost and always busy, fun and good friendly people with no click. Wife stopped so not been for sone time but reviews seem to back up what we found. |

Sorry to hear that we've not really had or experienced those problems you have other than the odd poorly attended one.
Not been to either of the Chams places but on our list to try one day. you have to remember that's 115 or 180 miles away and a different part of the country from where we are all taking about. Cornwall, Plymouth is not blessed with a venue and for anyone, these places are the nearest for them and effectively travelling past this area to get to any other clubs in the UK. there are people who have to travel from Bristol, Dorset, Somerset, North/South Devon and Bournemouth we meet and see in some of the clubs in this area fairly regularly and it would be one of their local options also.
The point we were trying to get across is not everyone wants or can afford the time and to travel across the UK and there are some great clubs out there to try but it's not always viable.
Local people have to pick and choose what one they want to attend and some of their options are going to be better than others that is all. An empty club is no good to the people trying to run it financially but more importantly no fun for the people using their hard earned time and money visiting.

It would be interesting to hear how well attended WT was last night (Sat 28/1) as it was a 'normal' Saturday night in the SW with no 'noise' from one-offs like Secrets, Utopia and the various invite-only socials/ secret sinners etc. Steamers was again a buzzing night with the spa bath regularly full to overflowing. If WT was as well (was it?) then that would be good to hear. |

I agree with you, the southwest lacks much in the way of clubs and geographically to visit some of the well rated places involves long travel. Can only assume swinging is not such a big thing down here combined with the less dense population. On chams in Birmingham, yes amazing, but it is a trek for some fun. Due to the high costs for single guys at most clubs i won't pay them prices as much as i liked going.

I have been to the two Steamers party nights on the third Friday. I was clearly told on entry that no meant no and to ask first. I am sensible enough to know the rules, but I was impressed, it set the tone.
The hot tub was great fun, and while the second event was more quiet, it was still good fun.
I went to Steamers as they allow in well behaved chaps. I don't want to sit at a bar waiting to be invited to play.....I'd rather bubble in the hot tub!
As others have said, there's nothing spa based between Penzance and Torquay. It should have opened in Plymouth, it would be buzzing! |

There is a misconception that at WT guys have to stay at the bar but thats not the case. The pool is allowed and is a great place to meet and chat to people. The playrooms are for invitation only. |

"Does anyone have any more up to date views on this? We're in the area the weekend after next and considering a trip, most likely on the mixed night (Friday..)"
We went on 25/4 it was a toss up between steamers & WT as the other venue out at Chudleigh wasn't on that evening, tbh after reading this thread I'm left wondering if this was even the same club
Firstly although very close to the town centre it has a surprisingly discreet location, with plenty of parking right next door,we weren't fussed about paying a membership fee as for us we believe this sorts out the wheat from the chaff, although the night we attended membership wasn't required & it was also fee entry for females, what did it for us was the rules for single guys as although we often play with them, we just get pissed off getting harrased by them & WTs set up was ideal the venue itself was clean, well presented & plenty warm enough, even when dressed down, the dungeon was proberbly the best equipped we've ever seen in over 20 years in this lifestyle & the other play areas were really well set out, if I'm honest they shouldn't call it a pool as really it's not much bigger than some of the jacuzzis we've used, the bar was reasonably priced & well stocked & the staff were polite & attentive & chatting to them were fully aware of the bad rep that they once had & have implemented many changes along with some fab ideas for new event nights, the music in the bar areas wasn't too loud allowing you to chat to others, but we did miss the lack of TV screens showing porn like other clubs we've visited, the clientele was dynamic & varied in age, looks & what they were wanting & although it wasn't heaving by 11:30 it was fairly busy, it had a good mixed crowd with no dramas finding playmates, I know steamers is specifically a gay sauna during the day switching to swingers for some of the evenings & is up for sale & the 2 guys that own it are really well thought of in the local community, but we were also told by locals that it's a little tired & could do with a refurb & often lots of single guys in there, perhaps as the summer season starts & holiday makers flock to the English riviera expecting a little more for their buck, then WTs will find its niche market & word will get around as to just how good this venue has the potential to be, we'll certainly be returning |

In Torquay for a paddle-boarding weekend
And found WT and decided to give it a try
One of the best venues we found
Can’t recommend it highly enough
If it was nearer it would be our “Go To “ for most if not all of our adventures in this lifestyle |

And the gloryhole is invitation as well...this doesn't sound very single guy friendly. And this may explain why some of these clubs are struggling. Single guys bring in money as clubs charge them more.
They should really take a leaf from the clubs in the West Midlands who do not alienate singles males nor couples. |
