Eureka negativity... Why?
Jump to: Newest in thread
We are quite perplexed to why there seems to be some negativity around Eurekas at the moment.
Yes, prices have gone up, and yes it is no longer BYOB... Both annoying, but the owners decision as a business.
We've not been since it has reopened so can't comment on any of the changes... But intend too soon.
However, our advice to the new owners is to update the website ASAP... Showcase the changes you've made (pictures etc)... At the moment with the increase in membership prices and no idea what has changed, it acts as a real barrier to entry.
Last time we looked there was no events calender either...(party site is closed for maintenance). So why would someone want to spend £50 on a couples silver membership without understanding what they might be able to go to?
We understand it is still early days since reopening, but the website is your shop window.
You could even add some photos of the new interior on your Fab Profile perhaps (if photo rules allow).
We would also recommend reconsidering allowing silver members to join at the door (as previously). You will capture a lot more adhoc custom, as well as people who are not comfortable digitally sending docs across (I know you can book a face to face appointment, but that is not ideal for people that live some distance away).
Finally, Pleasures is now stating (on their profile and website) that customers need a negative PCR test or vaccine before entry... Something you may want to consider depending on your stance on the matter (this however would make us a lot more comfortable to go)
Anyway, we are sure you are aware of these points.... But if not perhaps you might find this view useful.
We hope to rejoin and enjoy the Sat night parties very soon (when parental responsibilities allow!) |

A lot of the old regulars won't attend eureka anymore out of personal choice because they were friendly with the previous owner and disagree with how the current owners took over from him.
I think it's a real shame you can't join on the door for a trial or something. Many of my best nights at the old eureka were when I brought a car load of newbies up to try the club spontaneously!
And I agree with the previous poster, it doesn't help that the website isn't up to date. I haven't returned to the club since all the changes and being able to see all these apparantly amazing renovations might encourage me back Abfabs is offering free membership to get people back to the club after lockdown - given eurekas price hikes especially for single blokes, offering free membership might help.

You have made some interesting points which I would like to comment on as a fun and sun loving member for over 35 years and someone who has already been there over 20 times since the reopening. The last couple of times I have been inside and am impressed with the imaginative new layout and decor which reflect the naturist heritage rather than looking even more like a night club which is what many were expecting to have happened.
Firstly, a number of the "I'm never coming back" people have started reappearing, proving that there is simply nowhere else like Eureka (over all)and the place itself will always have an appeal regardless of who owns it. Eureka along with everything else in life has been dealt a cruel blow by covid lockdowns and now, when getting going again, is being smitten by some appalling weather. Luckily the ground drains well and people are in the sunshine at the earliest possibility. Now that indoors is open again, there are things to do in poor weather.
One really significant thing is that the pool has been open every time I have visited this summer. That was not always the case before if numbers were low and weather was iffy.
As a Gold Member, I have not suffered a price increase so cannot complain. My only regret is that I can no longer bring any female guest on the spur of the moment (like your car load of newbies) Over the years I have introduced many and not one has not wanted to return whenever possible. Some regulars still remember the erstwhile quiet winter weekday when I brought seven lovely black hen partiers who kept things busy until 7.00pm kick out time!
I fully understand why things have changed and one benefit is that the place currently does not fill up on hot days with fully dressed chancers wandering around fanny gazing and playing pocket billiards (an image which does not do Eureka or the freedom of naturism any favours).
I hope that everyone involved will work together to make joining simpler whilst still keeping tabs on who is who as a precaution against trouble. A no questions asked set up is of no benefit to anyone except dubious characters. The management are already offering out of hours joining assistance by appointment for people who can't cope with doing it on line.
Single blokes (and I am one of them) have always been lucky that Eureka has made them welcome and I don't consider they particularly need further incentives like free membership. It is single women and female guests of gold members who I would rather see facilitated. More of them can only improve the scenery.
Regarding the website, i have seen many other instances where clubs and societies don't have direct enough control of their web presence and dynamics change resulting in out of date information, a situation which is never good. add to that the diversification caused by various social media sites and even where exactly on here is the best place to look, nothing is going to beat good old 'word of mouth' which, plus mentions in magazines, was the way people knew about Eureka before the internet. Eureka is still the magic place it was then and its enthusiastic members plus the unique location have made and kept it so.
I am sure that Stuart and Carrie and all the staff and helpers are doing their best at a difficult time and want Eureka to prosper as much as the members do.
Archimedes would be proud that his discovery has turned out to also be ours , thanks to Mark Wilson, originally, and all who have kept the place going over the years. |

I've never been but had planned to pre Covid & obviously now again after but what put me off before was that I'd heard it was clicky & the owners could be quite rude but I like to judge for myself but because if heard the stories do many times it was unfortunately never too if my list
& unfortunately since Covid I understand there's been management changes & I don't know if the current owners are the ones I'd previously heard about but they've done themselves no favours and have not come across well in my opinion to potential customers on posts
I asked for prices or guidance as to where I could find them on the website as I could see some costs but not others it was never answered (I understand their club posts were getting lots of comments but this one had less than 10 & they had seen the post) others have also asked about changes & they replied saying they wanted them to be a surprise for loyal members (fair enough but doesn't help potential new members) wanting to know if it's worth parting with their cash for like you
Ultimately I guess it's their business they run it as they see fit, it just feels like an odd business model to me but if it works for them, then great I guess

Personally we found the place badly run before, and indeed run down.
As others have stated it was cliquey and we were never made particularly welcome.
Hopefully the new owners will make it more friendly, less cliquey and run it with customers in mind, profits will then follow.
We wish it every success and are happy to pay an appropriate entry fee for a welcoming well run club. |

Well I have silver membership that doesn’t run out until September. However I am apparently expected to rejoin and pay again.
I honestly don’t feel like doing that. Maybe I will go back in the future but definitely not this year sadly.
I am going to explore some of the better run clubs further away. |

If you have a current valid silver membership then you do not have to renew until it expires. |

I was there for O&I last week and I liked the look of the place and planned to go back last Wednesday as I was under the belief current membership will still be honoured, but the weather was not promising so I went to Kestrels. I was going to have a second try on Sunday but due to the weather I went to Kestrels instead, which is another club subject to a lot of negativity, but I like the club and I am itching to try out Kestrels' refurbished dungeon. Also I need a sunny day and a day off to try Eurekas.

It's a mystery to us as to why individuals have the energy to waste on negativity and gossip, maybe it's sour grapes from the lack of "freebies" given this is now a professionally run business? Maybe that's what the "swinging scene" has degenerated to over the last 18 months or so.
No matter, looking past that we've always found that the best way forward is to try things for ourselves first and then decide.
Based on our real-life experiences, anyone who attends Eureka will be pleasantly surprised at just how professional and customer-focused the staff are. Stuart and Carrie have come in for a lot of stick, but they remain affable, courteous, approachable and above all professional.
It certainly makes a pleasant change not being physically assaulted by way of a greeting !!

Hi All, we have been 3 times now since its re-opened & every visit we have had a fantastic time. Where else can you spend the day naked in the sun, then if the mood takes you, have a nice play on the bottom field or the woods?
We have meet the new owners a couple of times they are lovely.
All we can say is its well worth giving it a try if you enjoyed the club under the old owners you will love the club under the new owners.

You will find that if you have a valid membership card with you, you are more than welcome to attend the club until its expiry date, then you will have to renew your membership using the new online system. |

End of the day, if ya’ll don’t want to go there don’t, just like when you read something on Facebook and you don’t like it, keep on scrolling…
Personally I genuinely love Eurekas and will continue to be a member, I first came before lockdown and had my first visit back on Friday Carrie and Stuart could not have been more welcoming along with the other people who were there, I went as a single female and felt completely safe and well looked after, as for the way the membership is done now, I personally prefer it, especially attending as a single female, at the end of the day, Eurekas is an awesome place with awesome people, if you don’t want to go then don’t, but don’t let your opinions of the way the club used to be run overshadow what Carrie and Stuart have done over lockdown, how awesome the club looks now and also how professional and welcoming Carrie abs Stuart are, and finally, just relax and have some fun! |

We have not been yet since it re-opened but we had no problems renewing our memberships, Carrie couldn’t do enough to help us & couldn't thank her enough, we had been members previously & regular visitors on the bi nites, I can say hand on heart I have never been or witness anyone being assaulted, groped or man handled as a ‘greeting’ and being Transgender I have always found it a welcoming, friendly & most importantly a safe place to go x |

Seen a fair amount of negativity on the forums and it’s a shame. Not been since pre 1st lockdown and would like to go back but have to admit the membership/joining changes (and this seems to be the big issue) put me off. I have nothing to hide putting details in but I just don’t trust the internet…too easy for hackers and for me I am more a nudist than swinger and when I go to places like eureka it is more to step away from life and be relaxed. I do hope that the owners change this and allow on the door entry as for me it’s about having spontaneous days and not about planning days which I can’t do due to work commitments. That said having read other forums I understand their choices. Hopefully they relax things in the future to be more open and well done for the effort they have put in to making it better…hope to see one day. Till then will try silverleigh and BGHS |

For each membership application done on site there are probably ten times where various thngs are passed back and forth between a potential member and a staff member. Passport, Driving licence, ID Etc. By moving the bulk of memberships online this greatly reduces contact and protects both staff and existing members post covid. The application process is simple, safe and takes 5/7 days to become active. No payment details required as payment is only taken once your membership form has been reviewed. If you are having trouble with the process please call the club and make an out of hours appointment to resolve any issues. |

Excellent. Perhaps that should be made clearer on their website then.

"So can you turn up and pay as a day guest then leave before the evening kick's off like previously?"
No, you cant. Its a members only club.
You would have to take out a Silver membership in advance of your visit (£25 and valid for a year)Then whatever day you choose to visit you would pay the day rate (also £25) Which allows entry until 6pm. |

I’ve been to the club many times over the years and will do again when things warm up.
I don’t understand your comment about moving paperwork online to ‘protect staff post covid’. Surely the greater risk is serving members with drinks and food after they have exchanged kisses and bodily fluids.
The risk from handing paperwork between staff, who we presume are all vaccinated and lateral flow tested and a fully vaxed customer is negligible. |

If you have been to the club many times over the years you will also have been on days where the queue for day visitors was fifty or more people. While I understand your comments about greater risk inside please think about the member of staff dealing with applications as if this were done "on the door" and each one is 10 transfers of paperwork then that is 500 risks whereas if they work on the same keyboard all day dealing with applications there is NO risk.
It may be "negligible" for you as a single applicant but for the club it has to be "manageable"
You can of course make an out of hours appointment to submit your application personally should you be having difficulty. |

I’m sure you are just plucking out a number but if not then having to pass over different types of ID 10 times seems like too much. As mentioned it’s not the owners I don’t trust but the internet…easy for hackers and let remember a few years back when a members leak for a swinging/affair site became public. Obviously protecting staff and members is key in these times but you can still exchange info in person without touching the passport/driving licence/house bill/birth certificate etc. Again I understand the owners reasons and they want regulars and people committed to the scene and not people like myself who go on the wim and just to relax on a random day 4/5 times a year. |

I'm quite happy about the new changes to the club if I'm honest. I used to regularly go as a couple and the previous owner allowed random groups of young guys in there 20s into the club. I would have to escort my partner to the toilet because these guys would stand near the toilet entrance and think if a woman is wearing something revealing then they could just grab them. Security was not interested in dealing with the situation.
You would have the same situation when staying over in the cabins. If my partner went to the toilet when the club was shut then single guys would think going into the ladies toilet and standing about wanking was the key to getting a shag.
The new owners have said they want to put a stop to all this. So allow me not to be bothered that single guys can't just turn up on a whim. |

The last Friday we stayed at silverleigh you had a guy rowing at 7pm when he was asked to leave because "he had paid his entrance fee and no one had fucked him yet".
Single guys who are respectful and understand what no means are few and far between. |

You only provide photo ID and one document with your address. These days for most things to buy you have to put your info on the net so can't understand why buying ticket for eg concert where you have to provide your details, photo is different from signing up to Eureka. But is still more less free country and you have a choice. Don't like it don't do it. Simple.
I agree that obtaining your membership before coming saves lots of queue and time by entrance. |

That isn't acceptable behaviour anywhere. The new management team seem determined to stop any sort of dreadful behaviour which is only to be supported. It will only go to make a better environment for all the grown ups who want to attend. |

We have called and emailed Eureka on several occasions. I have also chatted to staff on here. I have, at all times, found them to be polite, courteous, friendly, and helpful, and they have all had a great sense of humour. We look forward to our first visit this weekend. |

"I just find it strange how all the blame is being put onto Mike when the other owners are being praised by people like you did they not have a say on how things were run"
I don't understand your comment, but what constructive criticism have you about this club ? |

Why the negativity? Noses get put out of joint for one reason or another and this is what happens maybe. Who knows? I don't think their current policy is financially wise given all the negativity but it's not my business. If we wanted to try another club we'd go somewhere we could try first as guests and then decide rather than pay attention to website reviews. |

The only "negativity" I see about Eureka is on this forum.
Yes there have been changes, changes for the better!
No more are there groups of twenty guys turning up d*unk on a Friday or Saturday night looking for an easy shag having paid cash on entry and then disappearing into the night never to be seen or found again. Would you feel safe meeting someone like that?
That may be the way things are here on fab but not at Eureka. It is now a members only club and everyone is accountable. All happily enjoying living the lifestyle together, as a community, Safely but also being kept safe by the new structure put in place.
This needed to be done as without it Eureka would by now have been lost forever.
Why not talk about the great things happening at the club rather than the negative past, surely this forum is not the place to be discussing who owns what or why but whether this club is somewhere you can have a great time with peace of mind being key.
The only way to find out is to try it for yourself, become part of the NEW Eureka family!
And before anyone asks "Am I paid to promote" the answer is no.
Yes I am a member and Yes I massage there but I am not paid to "promote"
I am simply promoting MY club to great potential members.
If you have a genuine question about Eureka please send me a message and avoid the haters!

"Hello x have they put the couples only area back on the lower field yet? Thanks
No need to now as members follow the code. "
It's true I was playing in the lower field today and no issues at all. |

Eureka has everything going for it. The venue is and always has been amazing, the new management are putting so much effort into making the club the premium venue with the best most fun events in the country. There were some major problems before with non-members being allowed to just turn up so the new management is being very cautious. But if it is a little more difficult to apply for membership I'm sure the improvements will make it worth it. |

We would never have considering going in the past due to the horror stories that you use to hear, especially the letting in of non member random groups young townie pisshead type lads, who haven't a clue what swinging is and just feel they have paid to enter a brothel and the women are there to service them. We have seen this happen once in a club before and from a couples perspective its awful.
However it seems the new owners have worked super hard to stamp this out. We have no problem with them having our ID and been run as a private members club for genuine swingers.
We wish them every success and hope to get there next year.

We are choosing to not return to Eureka not because of the drama ?? r the single guys it’s purely the cost element now and what we would get for the cost of our night out.
But people seem to go on about the old Eureka and the reputation of the single guys
Let us tell you we’ve been to Eureka well over 200 hundred times and we can honestly saying the amount of trouble we had with annoying single guys we can count on one hand
You get twats but you also get some single girls and couples that are drama queens
The old Eureka really wasn’t as bad as people make out some of our best nights out we’re partying there |

I used to go to Eureka every Sat and I went for single blokes. I never saw groups of single blokes as described ! It was quite rare to see DECENT young single blokes there actually let alone groups of them. |

I certainly hope so. Keeping couples penned in at the bottom of the field was a great idea as it meant they couldn’t constantly pester me while I was having a quiet wank. |
