Question - When will you be opening up again?
Answer - Not to upset anyone or dash anyone's hopes because we would love to open if it was viable and legal & safe to do so, but .... we have took the decision at Club Play (Renamed from Club Sx recently) not to open again at all until social distancing has ended and we consider it safe to do so for our club.
The advice from Public Health England is clear to Sexual establishments like Saunas & Clubs ect we are not to open again in 2020. Now optimistically this may change and social distancing may end but until such time we will be remaining closed.
Whilst we fully understand that it is a matter of personal choice as to whether you attend our club or other's we have taken this decision after doing a full risk assessment and speaking to various authorities to protect our customers, staff, volunteers and friends.
As it is currently unknown how long this situation will go on for the club is closed for the foreseeable future and we shall keep customers updated via fab profiles and the Club website.
We hope you all stay healthy and look forward to an amazing re-opening night party when the time is right for our club.

I was thinking about you guys recently as you don't have an alcohol licence so there wouldn't even be an option to open as a bar. However, I think similarly to us, even if you did have an alcohol licence, trying to get enough people in and maintain social distancing would be difficult due to your floorplan and nooks and crannies; it wouldn't be financially viable.
The note you made about PHE. Our local health authority has not had the notice you and others speak of, in that venues such as ours should remain closed until next year. Our contact at PH wirral even contact PHE and no such announcement has actually been formally made. As always, it's all very cloak and dagger and no clear guidance for establishments such as ours. So we are left to use common sense, which is obviously that swinging parties cannot take place in our venues until there is no social distancing whatsoever. But there is no official announcement as far as our PH guys are concerned.
I think you were using the time to refurbish anyway rather than opening in 2020, so I wish you the very best of luck with your refurb; the improvements sound great and we will have to pop along when we are all open again xxx |

Very responsible Paul. Just because the government gives permission, doesn't mean its safe. I can see social distancing done away with by September, but again that doesn't mean it's safe.
It's hard when your government isn't acting in the best interests of its people |

We mainly posted this to try and stop the endless questions about when we will be opening and stop any speculation we may do so. I am sure you get exactly the same question at Townhouse every day.
It's true we have taken the time while we have been closed to renovate and change large parts of the club and reband, which is well underway and be finished soon. The decision to stay closed until socail distancing has ended was made more from a safety prospective than any other. Even if we are allowed to open the club next month with one meter socail distancing we will remaining closed until socail distancing is finish and we assess it safe to open the doors again.
Just say we really enjoyed our recent visit to the Townhouse a few weeks before lock down and got to applaud you both on all the changes you have made, the place looked amazing Xx

"So if the govt end social distancing say in Sept on scientific advice what is your criteria to reopen? Would you temperature test guests? "
We have assessed that we can not at this time see under any circumstance how we can reopen, especially with social distancing in effect.
If social distancing is ended we would have to look and listen to all the authorities advice on offer before we made a decision to reopen and what measures we would needed to implement to responsiblely open safely again.
At this time for our club with no bar licence and taking into account the nature of swinging itself we will be taking a safety first approach.
To responsibly & safely police a one meter distancing rule inside our club we concluded would take many more staff with a lot less customers and a lot of very hard to control and unenforceable rules. For instance have you been to a supermarket recently? Add people drinking acholic into the mix that are swingers. May I add lots of swingers will act responsible but it will only takes one infected idiot drinking in a club like ours that has air conditioning not following social distancing rules or not washing or sanitising hands and thats a lot of infected people.
We maybe judged as being over cautious but I have personally lost family (my auntie) and friends and know other's who have had it and still trying to recover from it. I will not apologise for the clubs stance on this especially as many of our regular staff and volunteers have conditions that make tham vulnerable like debates, brittle asthma, disabled and one member of the staff is 68. Then there's my very own 14 year son who has very few white bloods cells and rare blood type so mega vulnerable to this disease. I refuse to put any of them at risk or any of there family's or customers and there family's at risk for any reason. The club will not open again until socail distancing has ended and we take a common sense decision based on advice from the authorities and I see it as the right time to open our club safely again.

I commend you for the stance you are taking as you are not just looking out for your own family members and staff but also complete strangers. However I think that there will be still some sort of social distancing in place well into next year. It might well be the final stage of social distancing is face coverings and no contact. Doing this would mean pubs, bars, gyms, restaurants etc would be able to operate almost as normal as would a lot of clubs (minus the play). However you have stated that you would not open under any social distancing restrictions |

Amazing decision. All credit to you guys for showing respect and no little common sense, albeit under such difficult financial circumstances. If only other clubs would follow your example. Playing to be allowed in a couple( couples/ bubbles bla bla) of clubs from what I can see .from this Saturday. Hard to believe how reckless and irresponsible some people can be, particularly with a thousand people a week still dying from the disease and further spikes now causing serious concerns |

How is it irresponsible if people stick to the rules. Different clubs have different dynamics. A man and wife (or BF/GF) having sex in a club is no different to them having sex at home. No easy answers here. |

I have ran a club & large private parties (100 plus people) before that combined for nearly five years now and know something of human nature and how poeple act while consuming acholic in swingers clubs or act at swingers socals. I will also add I helped run a few socails and hosted one of the lancaster socails before running the club as a favour to a friend so I have my own experience in all of these areas to draw my conclusions from.
True, there are no easy answers but if a man or wife (or BF/GF) are having sex at home then that is completely different than doing it in a club. In a club we are responsible and accountable for there safety and all around them, at home they are only responsible for there own actions and safety.
If other clubs feel they can mitergate the risk and control it then that's up to them to decide and be responsible for. For us at Club Play we have concluded until social distancing has ended we will not be opening at all and that will not change.

"So if the govt end social distancing say in Sept on scientific advice what is your criteria to reopen? Would you temperature test guests?

However you have stated that you would not open under any social distancing restrictions
This is correct, we will not be opening again until social distancing has ended.
Paul
Amazing decision. All credit to you guys for showing respect and no little common sense, albeit under such difficult financial circumstances. If only other clubs would follow your example. Playing to be allowed in a couple( couples/ bubbles bla bla) of clubs from what I can see .from this Saturday. Hard to believe how reckless and irresponsible some people can be, particularly with a thousand people a week still dying from the disease and further spikes now causing serious concerns
How is it irresponsible if people stick to the rules. Different clubs have different dynamics. A man and wife (or BF/GF) having sex in a club is no different to them having sex at home. No easy answers here. "
Great answer from the club owners - obvious but necessary. If only some other club owners would show such responsibility and understanding |

As I've already said, every club is different and you cannot apply a one size fits all to this. I have also lost someone in all this (my father) so completely empathise where Paul is coming from. Also want to say I know how painful this is mate, and I'm sorry for youre loss.
Paul not reopening play until safe is 100% the correct thing to do. As is Vicky only hiring Townhouse. As was Bruce and Yona putting morals before profit.
I am surprised that other Manchester club owners (I won't name them) haven't decided to reopen. If they had, I'd have been slating them from high heavens. As they have not I applaud them.
Decedance is a different kettle of fish. It has always primarily been a pub that has swinging, rather than a swinging club that has a bar. I bet the majority of people commenting about it have never been. I am confident that Aaron and Mandy will enforce rules cause they always have done. The biggest thing their clientele will miss is no karaoke. I can't talk about le boudoir or Xtasia cause I've never been.
The amount of judgement on these forums is astounding. If you don't like it don't go. We are talking about people's lively hoods here though. We are talking about communities. For crying out loud show some compassion. Ask yourself do you have the same vitoral reserved for pubs reopening. Of course you don't. It's essentially the same thing though.
We are being told to get on with this. Unless you plan on marching down to Whitehall that's what we will have to do. Take precautions, wear your mask, wash your hands. Ultimately protect yourself and your loved ones. We cannot (and will never) be able to control the actions of other people. Stop being so judgemental and support each other.
Rant over. Sorry everyone. |

For what its worth, I have come to the same conclusion and agree with all you have said. I cannot see a way, in certainly the next two months and probably longer, that we can open safely and meet the letter and spirit of the law! Like you; every club must enact its own policy and we are not passing any judgement on them.
"Question - When will you be opening up again?
Paul & Dawn, Manager Hanky, All Club Play staff and Volunteers & Hosts Xx"

It's not the club owners that are the problem you've all been very supportive of each other.

Update - Club Play
Thanks to everyone for there support in these unprecedented challenging times and for all the kind comments Xx
We will be back once we feel the time is right and its safe to do so for our club and customers. If there's no second wave we are estimating to be open sometime between November 2020 & February 2021. Of course there are a lot of ifs and buts, no one knows the future but that's our take on the current situation.
We have had a lots of people asking to be added to the clubs opening nights guest list even with no date set which is very flattering. We have indeed started such an guest list which we will close a 200 people and feel its only fair to make people aware of its existence becuse we expect it will fill very fast and already have 59 people on the list. The opening night will be a Saturday night if that helps people but of course we no idea when that will be. I want to make this cystal clear we will not be opening until its legally allowed and Fab allow meets again and we feel it's safe to do so. This is a Provisional guest list ONLY and once we have a date for opening we will contact everyone on it to confirm.
We look forward to seeing you all at the opening of Play Xx
