I am thinking of starting a new club in Cornwall, would people be interested?
Starting with some parties and club nights in other venues and then if there is any / enough interest, moving to a permanent venue.
Thoughts please........ |

Once everything is back to normal, then a club in Cornwall would be a great attraction as holidays will also be back on stream. Unfortunately, none of us will know when this can happen but in principle it’s a great idea. |

There maybe a reason why there is no clubs in Cornwall. It is usually councils not granting licences. Bit like Liverpool, loads of swingers but no clubs in Liverpool (the nearest being the great Townhouse) |

I suspect this might be true, methodists are rather close to Quakers.. |

Love the idea but from a Penzance point of view, area wise, they shut down pole dancing in the pubs a number of years ago and when our local nightclub sold and tried to open up as a pole dancing club, then a gentlemans pd membership club..lets just say ots a furniture store now. |

Not enough chimney pots in Cornwall to make it a viable proposition based on relying on clientelle from the county!
Easy to circumnavigate the planning and licensing situation, just rent a big house and run them as parties rather than a club, that's what we've done at 'Secrets' for the last sixteen years without a problem, that keeps you under the radar and also keeps you legal.
Big question comes back to would it be financially viable and the answer has to be no sadly. Where we are in South Devon is bad enough, we don't get too many couples come up from Cornwall and trying to get couples to drag another eighty odd miles down the road from where we are is a non-starter. Yes we are always busy - well we were till CV fucked us over - averaging over eighty couples per party but that is only because we run one event per calender month, if we opened every week we'd have been dead in the water years ago! It works for us as it doubles up as our home the rest of the month, if it was operating from stand alone business premises it wouldn't be viable at all.
The only place in the South West that in normal times would be worth opening up a club is in the M5/M4 triangle, back to the chimney pots philosophy but who in their right mind would even consider starting a new club in the forthcoming 'normal'? With social distancing looking to be with us for many months if not maybe a year plus there is no way to operate a club which will require 'sexual distancing' (the thickness of a codom). By the time it's safe and viable to get the show on the road the swinging community will have been decimated, we've noticed how many couples have disappeared from this site in the last few weeks alone, no activity equals lost interest and no new couples coming in to the scene for the same reason so very much reduced customer base which will take a long time to get back to reasonable levels and of course will there even then be an appetite for clubs given the perceived probable danger of close encounters? We think that our business will have been set back about ten years, would we look to start a fresh venture with such a bleak economic outlook? Not on your nelly!

Very good idea about circumnavigating planning and licensing by hiring a large house maybe that would be the way to go if anyone wants to set something up down here. Good tips. |

"Secrets is a big house and that works well. Think exclusively silks was too
Silks closed before alot of people even knew it was open."
That was in Minehead in Somerset.
I never got there before it shut sadly.
We could sure as hell do with someone opening up a club in Taunton! |

Sorry, not been on forum for a while.
From what we have heard the local council won't allow us adults to have some consensual fun together.
I have seen Exclusively Silks mentioned above, we managed to go there once, it was our 1st visit to a club and it was fantastic, so a great shame the owner couldn't make it viable.
We have managed to get to Dec's twice and were due to go to Secrets but lockdown happened.
So we would definitely agree that a club in Cornwall would be fantastic as it's a two drive to get to any clubs for us. |

Even if there was one in Plymouth that would be OK, nearest one I know of is Swingers Quay in Torquay. |

I just don't think that the population density of Cornwall would make a club financially viable. Also being a long thin County does not help. However optimum location would probably be somewhere central like Redruth ish..... |

Truro would be OK but Redruth is part of the Redruth Camborne Conurbation and easier for locals and visitors to Newquay and the N Coast. Property/Rentals are also cheaper than Truro and better access from the A30. Also closer to more Premier and Travelodge type hotels for post club rumpy pumpy!! |

I’d be interested in setting something up, despite the naysaying: Redruth is a good shout, or even a bit further west/eastwards up the A30. I’ve been stashing some away for just this kind of investment, hah |

But is there a way of getting around the fact the council won't allow it? There is always someone that would grass you up. There would be loads on here that would grass you up judging by the number of fake couple profiles on here now!! |

Narrow minded locals who "wouldn`t like that sort of thing" near their houses. For "near their houses" read within 100 miles! I suspect their best friends are the local councillors who would have the final say at the planning stage.
I think you would have a better chance of starting one in Plymouth! One thing I find quite strange is that some towns/councils won`t have swingers clubs but will happily have gay saunas!

I think a lot of people would put in complaints as they would think it would affect their house prices . I'm sure there's been a few applications that have been denied over the years |

Said this before on another similar thread, you need to think laterally and not involve the council! To set up a 'club' you'll open a right old can of worms but if you rent a big house in a remotish area and run 'parties' you'll have no problem, you don't need anyones permission to hold parties. We've been running 'Secrets' in Devon that way for the last sixteen years without a single issue!
That said we can't see it being a viable proposition anyway, not enough chimney pots in Cornwall, you might drag a few people down from Devon but not from much further than that, we have a similar problem and we're a further 80 odd miles up the road and you need a decent head count to balance the books. |

Not so sure any council has been happy to have a gay sauna in its area. Some of these saunas host a swingers night too such as Newport and Swindon. |

Totally agree with all this ^^^ seriously not enough people down here even normal night clubs find it difficult outside of Newquay! But a large house with a private party probably bi-monthly might work and not need planning as long as remote enough ... |

It's really interesting to to learn that it's ok with the council to have parties at your private residence, but much harder to open a club.
I presume there must be some kind of limit legally on how many events you could have have, other wise more people would probably be looking at hosting if they have the right property.
(Obviously in more appropriate times) |

Some people are hosting these type of parties in large houses, and other buildings currently.
I believe no law has been broken (obviously aside from the obvious due to Covid restrictions) as long as no money has changes hands.
The source I got this information from is a company who organise events like weddings, parties etc.
A 'resonable' change is allowed to be made for food and drinks.
Outside of the current restrictions I would imagine that if it is your own home, you are causing noise or parking problems, you can do largely as you please.
Insurance might be an issue though. |

Think you are really going to struggle with licensing in Cornwall. Also I recently have been looking at a number of commercial properties all of which have clauses in their leases and purchase covenants prohibiting their use as places that make money from sex related activities such as adult stores. Not sure if this is linked to the Dutchy or the Churches. |

I have come across some stupid ideas, but this one is up there with the daftest hahaha ha. I think if you want to venture into opening a buisness you should steer clear of a swingers club. They will not be allowed to operate for a very very very long time, if at all. |

That said we can't see it being a viable proposition anyway, not enough chimney pots in Cornwall, you might drag a few people down from Devon but not from much further than that, we have a similar problem and we're a further 80 odd miles up the road and you need a decent head count to balance the books."
We read your input further up the page and have to agree fully with you.
Your parties was right up on the top of our to do list a year or so ago and a few times we'd started to arrange a visit but something cropped up.
We personally love club/party nights but honestly can't see us rushing back to one anytime soon even if restrictions were lifted and many people are saying the same.
Hopefully fingers crossed we'll get to one of your parties one day. |

Better check the rental contract - ours had a 'no immoral activities' clause in it. In theory, the landlord can invoke it if they received complains.
We were renting a detached house in South London when we were hosting private parties, which normally had 15-20 couples. Non-profit, it was where we live, and just ask max £20 for party costs. One neighbour complained about noise a couple of times (knocked twice) luckily it was during the socials and it music he was hearing, a soft base reaching their home.
The council even wrote us a letter, but it was so easy to defend because he exaggerated things. (ex: party every wkend, it's mostly once a month) But he was extra sensitive since they just had a baby. |

Seems to be going a bit off piste discussing whether it's acceptable to charge for a party or not on this thread but if it's a private party (by invitation only) then it wouldn't seem fair to charge other than byob but if it's a 'commercial party' as would be normally advertised on the forthcoming events listing (remember that?) then it's perfectly fair to charge whatever you want as it's an open invitation. If you're not prepared to pay, vote with your feet and don't go, your choice, it's a free world...or at least it used to be! |

"If it’s a couples and single fem club then yes. If, like the thread, it’s a high proportion of older “single” men then no "
Whilst I've never minded couple/female evenings, as a truly single female I actually wouldn't want that only for a local club as I like the choice to meet single guys at clubs too ... |

Lots - drinks, mixers, food, ice, plastic glass(we avoid real glass as you don't want shards on the floor when someone drops them) condoms, etc. But what people don't notice and costs a lot - cleaning and sanitation products! Lots of wine and mixer stains on the carpet and sofa, tons of laundry (5 beds, each uses at least a sheet and mattress protector)
Premise of swing has always been 'sharing is caring'. So I have no qualms sharing the cost when someone organizes parties. Similar 'business' parties were £80 and higher. |
