Here's my advice. I've had a few laptops over the years.
1. Google "ebuyer.com" and have a look at the budget laptops on there - they'll do the trick. No need to spend even £300.
2. Don't install too much software on the laptop - just what you need. If you install/update something - like Adobe Flash for example - and it asks if you want to install another program, make sure you don't. Most of that stuff is fluff and just slows the laptop down when you switch it on.
3. Keep the laptop cool. Make sure vents round the side and back aren't blocked when you're using it, and sit it on a big hardback book or similar if you're going to perch it on your bed. Keeping the laptop cool is the another factor in smooth running. If you sit it straight on your duvet, it'll overheat as duvets are meant to keep things warm.
4. It might be worth buying an external webcam (have a look on ebuyer again) - or just make sure the room or where you are you're in is well lit.
5. Webcams and skype rely on good internet connections as well. If your current internet supply keeps disconnecting, it might be worth checking out competitors and moving. Most modern, basic internet packages will probably do the job. Google "Broadbandspeedchecker" that site is good for finding out who does the fastest internet in your area.
I hope that helps |

Hiya, look at a company called microdream. They do refurbished business laptops . I've bought from them for my business and they offer excellent back up and options to upgrade the laptop if you want. The business spec laptops tend to be better built and have better battery life over the cheaper domestic type models you get at PC World. Perfectly useable laptop from a hundred quid

"Hey we are looking to buy a new laptop with a budget around £300-£400.
We want to use it for fabs live cams and Skype.
Please could you recommend one that would be suitable for this .
" . We use HP laptops at work ,so I just went and bought an identical model at PC World .
One advantage of buying at PC World / Curry's is that you see exactly what you are buying . They will also copy all the data from your old PC too your new one . |

HP, Acer, Lenovo all good makes in my experience. Definitely buy a separate usb webcam, experience has taught me it's a must.
Get as much memory (RAM) as you can. Most laptops come with unnecessary apps check online what to remove.
Anti virus software - you definitely need one, most are ok. See how you go with them.
Don't buy MS Office, you can use LibeOffice free and its just as good.
Go for the top end of your budget, better components.
Enjoy |

Generally AMD processors run at higher clock speeds than intel chips so it will be more than adequate for what you want. Built in webcams aren't the best though so maybe invest in a high def external cam. It can also be positioned where you want it. |
