I've been encouraged to use the chat and found it a great experience, trouble is I have to have the screen at such a distance and angle I find it difficult to read and type even with glasses on so I am wondering if it is a simple plug and play affair when you add an external camera so I can place it at a suitable distance or does it depend on the make of cam? Thanks. |

"Windows pc? If so most webcam will be USB plug & play, very simple to setup. "
Yes windows 10, I was hoping that was the case but didn't want to just buy without a couple of confirmations, thank you. |

There are now loads of options to get video into your PC without having to buy a webcam.
First, do you have a dashcam in your car? Try plugging it into your PC. It may work as a webcam. (My Nextbase 212 does!)
Second, if you have a recent DSLR there might be software that allows it to be used as a webcam. Nikon, Canon and Sony all have released software to enable this, so it might be worth investigating. (If you do, it's worth buying an external power connector, or a dummy battery).
Lastly, you can use your phone as a webcam. It can be a little tricky depending on your phone's make, but certainly possible.
And you can combine all 3 options together to make a virtual TV studio, so you can have multiple cameras and choose which one you want to use. All appearing as a camera in chat. If you're interested it's worth looking at OBS and their virtual camera.
The rabbit hole goes quite deep. But definitely worth exploring some options before splashing cash on a webcam. Plenty of how-to videos out there if you want to know more, or feel free to ask. |

Yes OP.
Nowadays it's very simple - just plug in.
You can see the drop-down options of cams that you have on the "your cam" box on the right upper corner of the chat page.
Just select whichever one you want to use.
Good luck. |

Very informative thank you, I do have some action cams and one may be suitable not having a stupide extra wide angle that some have, tried my compact camera on AV and HDMI but not being recognised, will explore the phone idea, thank you for the detailed info, I don't want too fancy or HD so my wrinkles are harder to see, will try some of your ideas. |

Thanks for the help, I tried a cheap action cam I was using as a dash cam and it installed a driver and worked within 30 seconds, nowable to position the cam to the side and still see the screen to read and type without squinting and showing my wrinkles, HD cam too no hiding now. just need the balls to start a chat now ha ha. |
