It'll be heaving, absolutely heaving. Single track roads a lot of the way with flash cars trying to do it in record times. I'd advise forgetting about it, instead hug the West coast through Galloway, Argyll, through Oban and up to Fort William then either Road to the isles, Applecross or Inverness |

Absolute nonsense. Some bits are busy yes but it’s far from the horror scene some people portray. We have been up for 2 weeks in height of summer last 2 years running and still haven’t seen it all yet. I will admit there needs to be better standards of driving due to people hiring mahooosive motor homes when they are used to driving a fiesta. Some people need education on the use of passing places. Overall it’s not been bad at all and we’ve had a lovely time. Key is to embrace local. Shop local at farm shops or honesty boxes. Visit local pubs. Save litter until your at the larger places to dispose and if you see a bin overflowing don’t just add to it. Book sites or official sleeping points and don’t just pull into some farmers field. Generally if you’re polite and sensible you will have an amazing time.

All about opinions guys. It's a decent trip, having done it plenty of times for work etc even before that ad people named it, but I'll stick to my opinion that there's better, more scenic and less busy options. Just thought I'd throw it out as a consideration for the OP but it's their holiday not mine |

Did this a couple of years ago, was a bit later in the year than you’re planning though. But, had a fantastic coulee of weeks or so. The most surprising “gem” for me was Ullapool and really enjoyed a waterside pitch at Ardmair Point campsite, very peaceful.
Where ever you end up staying along the route, make sure you take time to enjoy the wonderful scene Ray and the marvellous things to do and enjoy along the way |

There is a you tuber called Chris Sloanes who spends a lot of time up there and has actually created some affordable e-guide books with restaurants, park ups etc that works from Google maps. |

Some fantastic places to eat up here also. Well worth giving Lidls and Tesco a miss whilst you are in Thurso, and going to some of these places. Tapas restaurant in Scrabster is a personal favourite. |

I know a few tips for your visit. I was born and bred here, live, travel and work on the 500 daily. |
