I know this is an odd website to ask about this, but iv also posed the question on some facebook groups etc as well....
My aunt passed away 6months ago, and she was kind enough to leave us some money so my mum has been thinking about getting a caravan with it. so that she and us as a family can have more frequent weekends away and go on adventures. But she isnt the most confident driver.
Will she be ok towing?
Are there lessons she could take?
And on the caravan, is there a better make than others? And what style would suite a single parent with 21+15yo daughters and a 13yo son?
I wont be going every weekend that they go but the hope is to do a few trips a month and a big one over summer to france maybe.
Or is this all a bonkers idea and i should tell her to forget it? |

If your mum is t the most confident driver... Towing a caravan can be daunting!
I've driven one round Norway in the past and we have a wee touring van, but I'm still never confident.
Why not consider a small camper with and awning for the kids? |

As others have already said there are a few things to consider. Towing vehicle towing limits etc. Everyone is capable of towing safely and I would recommend a towing course first. You don’t have to buy a massive van as you can always put up an awning to expand your accommodation. Don’t let the whole experience be too daunting. It’s all about fun, but get expert advice. Any other questions just ask. We all had to start somewhere. |

A list of things that people do not consider when they get or buy a caravan.
1. Will the car you got tow a caravan.?
2. Have you got somewhere to keep it. ?
3. Would you struggles to get it off the road.
4. Will you struggle to get it hooked up to get it on the road.
5. Are you/they confident to tow it.

She went on a towing lesson/experience and aced it. So shes ordered one! The guy at the dealership said her car would be fine to tow most caravans but we picked a smallish one so definetly ok to tow it. Went for a smallish 4 birth (learnt some lingo lol). The sofas can turn into 2 double beds but are big enough to be used as single beds. So will work whoever is going now. And got an awning as well for extra space. Picking it up end of the month. First weekend trip booked like 30mins away from home hahahaha |

Sounds like you got it sorted
I would recommend the caravan and camping show as loads of great advice at the talks and some bargains and ideas of where to go. Also secretly a few of us fabbers there too !
