First time solo camping
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hey! I’ve just started getting back into camping with my kids but thought I’d be brave and go and camp alone so thought I’d see if you guys had recommendations for campsites within half hour drive of Weston super mare that are adult only and can be booked for Saturday and Sunday nights? Camping as a family has always been quite social and as I spend alternate weekends at home alone I thought maybe getting out there would be a good idea?
Ladies? Do many of you camp alone? Is it quite safe to turn up alone to campsites? Would anyone help if I got all tangled up in my tent
Really look forward to any and all replies and any tips for staying safe or good places to mingle too |

An adult site within half an hour of Weston. !!! No chance. Gems camp site is about closest to you. For your security young lady. I would be willing to be your adopted father for the weekend. I have shower and toilet in my camper van. |

Haha I didn’t mean a swingers site exclusively just any site that doesn’t allow kids, if I don’t have mine I don’t want to be on a site full of other peoples kids thanks for the offer but I have my tent and I need to give it a practice run |

There is a Facebook group for women campers that you may want to join. They arrange meet ups and sometimes wild camp too. Some of them take kids too but you can always post for a meet without kids. |

"We were thinking of opening just adult camping site just outside the Clevedon...
But didn't seem to get much interest..." I would say give your ideal a try. Clevedon is nicely situated near the M5 for people on route up north for a stopover and vice versa down south. Portishead on one side. And Weston on the other.
A little investment, could reap rewards in more ways than one. |

I love taking my kids away but it would be nice to get away on my own too and not have to listen to other peoples children haha also the family campsites have a 10pm cut off for noise which is great but if you are with other adult friends I’d rather not have a curfew. Clever on would be ace for me as I could be out of work and pitched within the hour on a Saturday |

Chippenham Malmesbury area |
The Batch Camp Site at Churchill, Somerset (10 miles away from WSM), is really great, basic but fairly remote with several pubs and a chippy within walking distance. The only problem is that they do allow families but normally it's just adults.

From what I know and a few solo female campers I know (both wild and camp sites) is that is very safe and never had any issues, if your on a proper camp site then you'll be very safe. I understand people being a bit scared wild camping (even I get a bit spooked on a solo wild camp) enjoy |

Even if it means working a couple of extra shifts, treat yourself and get a hotel.
With your curves and physical attributes I reckon it's the least you deserve.
xx |

Well if you enjoy it I can't criticise you for that. Does camping appeal to your sense of adventure then?
I was watching a repeat of Romesh in Ethiopia tonight and when he had to sleep outside under the stars he wanted to know why he couldn't sleep indoors in a hut that was very close by.
'That's why indoors was invented' he said. 'Someone invented indoors thousands of years ago so they didn't have to sleep outside so why would I now want to sleep out here when there's a building I can sleep in over there?' haha.
I thought it was funny anyway...
Have you got your own tent and is it a big one with more than one compartment or a small ridged thing like I used when a teenager, or do they have them at the site pitched and waiting for your arrival? |

Sleeping outside I don’t suffer with insomnia. It’s a great reset to sleep when it gets dark and wake when it’s light!
Got my own tent with compartments and all the kit I just haven’t been so brave to use it since I separated from husband a few years ago. I take the kids once in a while but we are all getting back into it now so hopefully it’ll be a more frequent thing with them and by myself |

And there's me finding it easier to sleep when it's light!!
Sounds like you've got yourself a 'posh one'. Have lots of fun in it and with it.
Funnily enough my niece is currently in a caravan at or just outside WSM.
(Not completely sure if a caravan qualifies as the same thing and she is with her family.)
For the record I prefer travelling by bike and hotelling at night. That's the right mix for me |

"I'm sort of the same, new tent just looking for a quiet safe getaway but I'm in North Wales. "
I’ll let you know if I survive on Saturday I’ve booked somewhere just half hour from home for one night just to get a feel of how I’ll be alone overnight |

'In Cheltenham'. Really?
Thought that place was far to posh to have a campsite.
My mate lives there in a 2 million quid modern semi. You couldn't make it up. |

Well I am thinking about Morfa Dyffryn near Barmouth this weekend. Its in North Wales. Denis field or Daves field sounds fun. Daves has a walled section for nudist only (Adults).a lot depends on the weather. I only got a 2 man tent. Of my favourite is wild camping in snowdonia. |
