As much as we're looking forward to Swingathon and meeting the many profiles we've spent weeks/months messaging, can the organisers confirm this event is still happening in view of the extension to Covid restrictions?
There is no update on the Swingathon website yet.
Camper Jam, an annual non-swinging event in Shropshire the same weekend which was sold out has been cancelled presumably on the grounds of gatherings of more than 30 outdoors being illegal before 19 July. |

From the Govt website re fines for breaking Covid regs......
Organising a large gathering or an unlicensed music event.....
£1,000 fixed penalty or punishable on summary conviction by a fine not exceeding £10,000.
Gathering in a public place......
£200 fixed penalty that reduces to £100 if paid within 14 days or punishable on summary conviction by a fine not exceeding £5,000.
Not wishing to be a spoilsport as we're looking forward to this as much as anyone but how will Swingathon be exempt from these regulations?
Swingfields/Aurora was annually blighted with press attention in pre-Covid times. Imagine what they'd make of an illegal swinging festival breaking Covid rules!!

"Some comment from the organisers either on the official website or on this forum would be welcome. "
Don’t worry an official statement will be announced once all the risk assessments and Covid safety measures can be put in place. Just give everyone a couple of days to double and triple check everything. ![](/icons/s/2/cute.gif) |

Nothing has changed from last week. If it was legal last week it still is this week. Haven and Butlins are having 2000 people plus each week with live music and entertainment and as this is a camping event I can't see the difference unless I'm missing something. ![](/icons/s/sad.gif) |

It’s full steam ahead organisers have confirmed that are still allowed to proceed and we have seen this confirmation from the council. Let’s all embrace this and enjoy |

Just for confirmation.
The Swingathon Event will be going ahead.
The organisers have spoken with the local council and the Covid officer to get the advice and recommendations needed.
As it’s a licensed event the maximum number of people who can attend is 4000 or 50% of the maximum capacity (which it’s well under). Covid Social distance rules will be in place and all attending will need to show a negative lateral flow test before entering the site. |

We never had our doubts. A camping weekend outdoors with negative tested and more likely vaccinated people in attendance and if like us oldies double vaccinated what was ever the worry
All we need now is the sun to shine
Bring it on. |

Doing risk assessments is part of my day job and I've been helping out with comments here and there.
I must say they have been handling things excellently from where I sit. |

"Wrist bands came today, the time is getting closer. "
Wrist bands have only been sent out to a few people who booked through another website.
All wrist bands will be given to the remaining people on arrival.

"Anyone washed a tent at the laundrette? hopefully it doesn't wreck it :/
I hope this is a joke.
Washing a tent would remove all the water proofing.
"
This is a new piece of info few have alerted me to now.... So I've decided to forego the tent washing. Seriously minimalist attendee here. Tent and sleeping bag is all there is for now ![](/icons/s/neutral.gif) |

Camping Essentials
The basics, the must-haves you need for any camping trip.
First of all, a Tent! They come in lots of sizes, and a good rule of thumb is to aim for a tent that sleeps 1 or 2 people more than you need.
Tent Pegs - you will get some with your tent, don't forget to take them!
Sleeping Bags for everyone who is camping. It gets pretty chilly at night, even in summer.
A Sleeping Mat, Air Bed, or Camp Bed for each person. Airbeds are cheap and comfortable so a good place to start.
Pillows - easy to forget, but make a huge difference to a good night's sleep. If camping by car take your ones from home.
Camping Stove - to cook your meals. Don't forget to take the correct type of fuel as well.
Cooking Pans & Utensils
Cutlery
Water Carrier or Jerry Can - so you don't have to go to the site tap every time you need water.
Camping Chairs - the best way to relax in the sun is on a comfy folding lounger or chair.
Torch and Lantern for lighting the tent in the evening, and any night time trips to the loo (don't forget extra batteries!).
Bin Bags - so you can keep the tent clean and tidy.
Optional Extras
Something to add a little more to your setup, to make your stay more comfortable and relaxing.
Tent Footprint - Protects the underside of your tent by adding a layer between the tent and the ground.
Tent Porch - Many family tents have a purpose-built extra porch that can be bought seperately. If yours doesn't a gazebo or tarp can add extra space.
Tent Carpet - For a spot of luxury and extra warmth (and to soak up any spills!).
Camping Table - Ideal for mealtimes and late-night card games.
Electric Hook-Up - If your pitch has electric power then you will need a mobile mains kit to connect to it safely.
Camping Toilet - Ideal for when you really don't want to leave the tent during the night. Especially useful for younger campers who might not get to the toilet block in time.
Cupboards and Storage - Help keep your tent tidy
A Windbreak to create a bit of privacy and shelter
Tools & Repair
Useful items for any camper. These should not be overlooked
Mallet - to help put the pegs in, especially on stony ground.
Duct Tape - A lifesaver when it comes to simple, on the go repairs.
Tent Repair Kit
Brush - To help keep debris out of your tent, and to brush down the bottom of the tent when packing away.
Penknife - especially good if it also has pliers
Extra guyline or string - Useful for binding, adding extra guylines in bad weather, or as a washing line.
Camping Kitchen
Additional items for your camping kitchen outside of the essentials mentioned above.
Gas for your stove, charcoal for your barbecue. This can sometimes be purchased on site if there is a shop, but much better to take your own to be sure.
Cleaning Equipment - washing up bowl, sponges and scrubbers are very useful.
Kettle
Tableware (Plates, bowls etc)
Tin Opener
Bottle Opener
Matches / Lighter
Wet Wipes or cloths - For easy, quick cleaning
Health and Safety
Personal medications (plus extras just in case)
A travel First Aid Kit is a great idea.
Sun Cream
Anti-Bacterial Handwash
Insect Repellent
Toilet Roll
Condoms
Viagra |

So we’ve been at swing a thon , not entirely what we expected as barely anything advertised was actually there. Good options were very limited and poor , toilets were minimal for the amount of people here . No cigar bar , live band , mobile dungeon, hot tubs , clay pigeon shooting and the entertainment wasn’t great so spent most of our time at our very crowded pitch. No washing up facilities and drinking water was poorly signed.
On the plus side, the people there seemed great, showers although were £2 , but clean and hot ! Bar was reasonably priced but there was only 1 and the pizza place didn’t seem to open while we were here !!
So , our first experience wasn’t great , hope this feedback is helpful .
Not hugely worth the money ! |

We couldn’t disagree more. Yes, some of the entertainment and attractions weren’t there or didn’t take place but that was because of Covid restrictions or beyond the control of the organisers who worked tirelessly to ensure everyone had a great job. For their first time organising an event like this they did a great job and we can’t wait to see what they achieve next year. |

We tottally agree we had a great time and are very thankful for them for organising it. Yes there were teething problems and I’m sure they will learn from them for the next one. We will be there that’s for sure x |

We think they done a great job in organising this type of event in these challenging times and totally understand why things may not of run as smoothly as it could have.
So a big thanks to all the people involved in making it happen!
We know that if they decided to do it again, we would attend as sure things will only improve |

I went with zero expectations, so everything laid on was a bonus. The organisers conversed with us throughout the lead up and those of us attending even had some input in final decisions. I for one had an amazing time and would definitely attend again. Great job guys x |

Considering the entire event was put together in such a small amount of time, I'd say it went above and beyond expectations.
What the organisers pulled off was one hell of a feat under very challenging circumstances and had the weather been a tad kinder it would've negated most of the issues anyway.
As I understand it, it was the vendors who canceled last minute, so not really the organisers fault.
Bravo guys, top marks and thanks again for an epic 3 days. |

As for feedback . Great first event , yes more toilets possibly and the event field i think would of beenetter with a few more tents / vans as the pods seemed a bit isolated from the majority.
Overall just a massive thankyou to all that were involved and attended . The people make an event even when there are small hiccups xx |

Thanks to Matt and Stacey for a fab first swingathon. We had the best time!! Considering the immense pressure you were under and considering the issues surrounding Covid … we both thought it was a great event. Some really good points were… the shower facilities were awesome and very reasonable, the accommodations were great, entertainment was on the whole pretty good, great to be able to socialise with so many different people and dance again. These aren’t so much negatives, just some general feedback… some more toilets on par with the shower facilities, some more tents etc (think there would have been more anyway had Covid not hit), a bit more perimeter security, tannoys or some kind of PA to help people know what’s going on etc. We thought it was a great first event that’s going to go from strength to strength year on year! All the hard work paid off and we can’t wait to see what Swingathon 2022 brings! See you next year and get in touch those who we met… thanks again xxxxx |
