You can’t ever go wrong with Arai, I’ve raced with the road and off road versions for 20 years.

My missus always has them, the latest is a Nicky Hayden rep RX-7v.

she says it's a bit noisier than previous ones.

The lid arrived today and not 100% with the fit so getting it custom fitted by a local arai specialist to have it just rite.

I loved my Arai. First race at cadwell I threw the bike at the Scenery at cadwell, barn corner and met a few Marshall’s. Helmet was a goner so went out second race in my old AGV. It was then I realised how shit AGV are

There's an old saying.

You either have an arai head or a shoei head.

Try before you buy.

Not heard that in ages, very true...

Cant go wrong with either to be fair, personally I'd go Arai but friends of mine have Shoei HJC and 6D and all are a muchness really, just have to try, it's too personal a thing to generalise.

Shoei GT Air, great helmet, love the integral visor as I'm a glasses wearer. Ventilation seems effective too. And my Scala fits and works well

I have since seen a review saying the front vent could be better. Hope you find it ok.

Don’t buy a Suomy!!

They are expensive but it is a quality helmet, well put together and quiet.

Here’s the thing,

Their visors are coated to stop fogging on the inside and it bubbles up the minute it gets wet.

Went to dealer who said contact company and did that. Several letters, pics and calls later they basically said tough shit!

It’s all over forums about their poor customer care regarding these visors and they won’t accept any responsibility. They don’t even make uncoated ones to replace them but luckily another supplier does ata price. Not great for a £350/400 helmet to be useless after one wet ride!!

It makes them pretty unusable as it crazes from the bottom up!

Buyer beware!!

Shoei Neotech2 with lift up visor which is also legal and used by the boys in blue. Good vents on the crown and chin plus internal sun visor. Circa £450 up so not cheap but IMO a damn good helmet

Arai RX7-XX - I’ve had a few. Light with lots of venting. I use earplugs on long journeys though!

Earplugs on long journeys, good tip. But why do the manufacturers make lids that make noise worse? Need more research which would increase the cost of the lid (sigh)

I believe this to be true... I tried lots of helmets, and no way did Arai fit, but Shoei were spot on...

My tips..

Lid has to fit, so you must try before you buy.

My helmet (gt Air) has recesses for glasses, and a sunvisor built in.

Definitely go for ventilation you can shut off. I think most do these days.

Unfortunately, the level of noise inside a helmet is governed by the EC22-05 regs. insomuch that you must have clear audability to be able to hear emergency vehicles etc etc.

Most of the noise received inside a helmet is actually generated in the bike/rider interface. i.e. if you have a huge great fairing and a quiet watercooled bike and you sit low in the saddle (us short arses!) the noise will seem quite low.

However, take the same helmet and stick it on someone who's tall, put them onto a H-D with straight through 'leaf-blowers' and the noise will go up a fair ol' bit!! Same helmet though!

I’ve got a rx7 maverick replica. At first I wasn’t too with it but it’s broken in now and it’s good.

This is a question that always gets asked an everyone has a preferred lid they say is best but the truth is everyone's head is different the same as shells, linings and cheek pads vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and even model to model so the top spec Arai may not suit your head in any size. Go to a shop with lots of manufacturers to choose from and try till you get the 1 that's right for you then the best thing to do is ask for feedback on the 1 or 2 lids you narrow it down to. Arai, Shoei, HJC, Shark, AGV and many more great lids out there just don't buy a budget lid.....don't budget when it comes to your head

Inverness and around. ...

There's a saying ...A two dollar lid for a two dollar head ....buy the best leading brand you can afford.....quality counts. .

I bought a Schuberth a couple years ago after being an avid fan of Arais. It's a flip up so it's a little noisier but I always wear ear plugs anyway.

If only that was true. The only lid which fits my nut is HJC. I'd willingly pay the extra but nothing fits as well.
