Im going clockwise...i read a lot of mixed opinions about which way to go. Im closer to the west coast though. Travelling light with a tent and essentials. Looking forward to capturing some decent vids and pics. Got my phone, gopro and flyeye 360 camera handy. |

Did it anti clockwise last year and one of my favourite runs
This year going up to Gairloch via Oban and Applecross
Just back from the Snow Roads Braemar to Grantown-on-Spey excellent run |

I done it clockwise but the downside is coming down the east coast it sort of boring after you've done all the west coast so Imo get the east coast out the way then be prepared to be gob smacked by the beauty of the rest of it |

Totally agree!! Go anti clockwise up to Thurso and then have fun once the boring part is done. You’ll love the Applecross to Beauly section especially the Beallach Na Ba twisties...just watch out for the sheep or cattle ????
Something else to watch for is the locals! They think they own the road and don’t give way if coming towards you on the single track roads and will literally drive past a passing place instead of stopping ??
Otherwise...have a great time! I camped in Thurso and Gairloch but plenty of stunning places to stop with stunning beaches for some skinny dipping |

The man's right you know, listen to the people who have been there and done it. |

Make sure you know how to drive on a single track road.
Otherwise you upset the locals who are trying to go about their daily lives!
Whilst it may be magnificent scenery to look at, pull over and do it safely rather than doddle at 25 mph weaving across the road. |

"We’re doing NC500 with another couple in a few weeks time. If you could recommend any camp sites that would be great x"
I stayed at dornoch "grannies healen hame" dont recommend it to be honest...thought it was expensive at £24 for single rider for the night.
Durness has a campsite which is recommended (go get "the best hot chocolate" from cocoa mountain while youre there)
Ullapool is definetly another good location...great fish and chips plus decent pubs and they put on bands and stuff for when the ferry comes in from stornoway. |
