"So I need some advice on starting issues
Don't forget to turn fuel tap, I know sounds stupid but I was up boxhill bike wouldn't start and I forgot to turn fuel on lol " yeah it's not fuel related as it doesn't even try to crank |

"Try some easy start spray ,check for spark "
god no! .... you're engine will become addicted. spray fuel into the bellmouth of the carb instead .... but the op says it ain't cranking now so not fuel.
OP, have you tried to crank the starter with it removed? does it spin? |

"Should the starter spin freely when not on the bike ?"
yes it should and it should get the solenoid to kick the drive sprocket over. check the teeth on the drive sprocket to see if any are chipped and see if the bearing has collapsed. have you tried to bump start it? |

So to be clear, it's not a starting issue, it's an issue that the starter motor won't turn over, so all comments about fuel and sparks are irrelevant, is that correct?
You first said that the motor turned without the ignition on or pressing the start button, is that correct ? |

If you now getting a click from the solenoid it means the signal is reaching the solenoid so starter button etc is working. The solenoid should make and then allow a large current across the two big terminals on the top of it. You can bypass this by placing a spanner across the terminals. If the starter turns it's a dodgy solenoid. If not make sure you connected the solenoid correctly, one of the terminals should go direct to the battery positive terminal and the other direct to the starter motor. Next is to test the starter motor but if you had an initial problem of it always spinning chances are it's not that. You can take it off and test by connecting to a battery, positive to terminal, negative to earth it anywhere on the starter motor body which is bare from paint. You can also test in situ with a pair of jump leads same way. If starter spins check cables (the think ones) and ensure starter motor/engine has a good earth. |
