Hi all
What's the best bike for taking my son pillion on. I have a Daytona and that's way to sporty for it so was thinking an Adventure? Type bike .
Anyone have experience and tips with doing it?
Will be aiming for spring next year to get another bike . |

Not sure if everyone is aware but I think the highway code states that the pillion (child in this case) should be tall enough for their feet to touch the pegs. Otherwise they shouldn't be on the bike. |

Yea I know that. Different bikes have different length to the foot pegs. Like my Daytona is short and child can reach them but am not ready to take him out on it this year so waiting till next year. Where as I took him to bmw to sit on a gs and he couldn't reach both foot pegs on that bike. |

How old or how tall is your pillion. How far or what sort of trip are you think about.
I see some guys witn footpeg extenders (basically a bracket that raises the rear pegs) on touring bikes and on harleys.
A top box or sissy bar would be very good especially if you are planning a long trip.
There is also a belt you can get with handles on it, you wear it and it gives your pillion something to grab on to.
In 20 or 30 years time no one will ever say "hay dad do you remember the time we played video games or watched television" but they will say "hay dad do you remember the first time you brought me on your motorbike" and probably followed by "and then I got addicted to motorbikes |

I’ve bmw 850gs.. top box and back rest…(versys650 and Honda Nc750X before that) I’ve had all 4 of my kids on the back the gs is by far the best. Never felt any safety concerns and younger now 13 shouts faster faster daddy!!! Or throws her arms out and pretends she’s an aeroplane (even still) had them on back probably from 8/9 years old.. now to the extent the eldest lad just got his A licence (previously 125 on L plates and A2) and has his own versys 650 at 21.
It’s got to the stage I pull the bike out of the garage my daughter is ready to go before I am!! Helmet headsets are an essential though as I can warn if overtaking or accelerating/braking sharply so they’re aware |
