Hi all
Not a biker and do not condone speeding.
Hypothetical question here.
If someone's getting a bike up to 140 and so far on 3 occasions 150, what sort of odds do they have of killing themselves or others in an accident? |

Pretty much guaranteed if they hit something.
People like that need to be taken off the road and never given a licence again. |

Think at 150 mph you travel length of football pitch in 1.3 seconds .
I understand people not agreeing with speeding on a bike . But until you do . The experience is profound .
I am super sensible now . But I did lose licence travelling 140 . (Was going a fair bit quicker)
I must say this was always on extremely quiet roads in north Scotland.
Actually not quite as good as sex . But in that area . Lol |

To answer very literally, IN an accident the odds are probably quite high. We'd need to know the number of bike accidents at 150 and the number of deaths this resulted in. Doesn't take a lot of imagination to guess the answer to this.
What are the odds of having an accident? Who knows? We'd need to know the number of journeys that involve going 150 and the number of accidents that resulted. I'd say not that high but we'd all be incriminating ourselves if we were to log it for the national office of statistics. Sportsbikes can get from 70 to 150 in maybe about 5 to 8 seconds and back to 70 in maybe the same. So in a 10 second window what could possibly go wrong?
They can also stay at 150 for about 20 minutes before they run out of fuel (or road) so quite a lot could go wrong.
Anecdotes about 1 person doing 180 every day and living or someone going 50 once and having an accident aren't odds and aren't statistics, they're anecdotes.
You're worried about someone and that's a fact. The only fact that's relevant really. But don't we all worry about someone for a while variety of reasons.
I'd say bikes and speed can be addictive but a lot of things can be addictive and bad for you. I'd also say you can grow out of it...hopefully.

This summer 5 bikers died in two incidents in Derbyshire on the same weekend. What do you fancy your chances are. I ride responsibly and according to the conditions. |
