somewhere inbetween the right and wrong

Looking to get a new bike - I'm not a speed demon and it's more of a toy and (when the weather's nice) a humble commuter.

Has anyone got a Himalayan or the new 411 - wouldn't mind some real-world opinions.

The commute is mostly 70mph hills, if that matters.

I looked at the Himalayan when seeking a bike for similar use as you intend. 24 hp isn’t a great deal from 411cc. In the end I was talked into buying a second hand Triumph Bonneville 900cc Scrambler for a bit more £ and didn’t regret it.

You might be better off looking at the GT or Interceptor 650s a little bit more power, but still not a rocket ship. Definitely be more useable than the Himalayan

My mates dad has a Himalayan. It has the TEC upgraded cam which ups the power to about 31 bhp. He uses it as his general run about and regularly with a pillion and loves it.

Hi

I have several bikes, and I ride a r1200rt for work. My main bike used to be a Pan-european, but sine buying a himalayan as a winter hack it is the bike getting most use! I have upgraded the cam, Air filter, power commander etc and it is actually reasonably good. I don't need speed as I can do that at work, and Dana finds it comfortable as a pillion too.

Oh and it is super easy to do everything on.. Full service in 30 minutes. Perfect for home spanner monkeys!

It certainly is not quick, but it returns 70mpg which right now is a good reason to leave the pan, and all the rest tucked up in the garage!

I got a royal enfield meteor 350, not the fastest bike in world n ok if you want a run around for town or a slowish long ride.

But the one good thing about it is getting average 90 mpg.

But with all the speed restrictions on the roads n idiots in cars maybe I did make the right move getting a 350 with the high petrol prices, plus what I paid for this new would have only got me something bigger but a good few years older.

Plus this is my 1st bike in 35+ years.

Interesting to hear of your success in squeezing a more out of the RE. Wife is now going to take her test and wants a Himalayan as first bike. Think it’s a sensible choice as we we do hope to fly to far flung places to explore on two wheels, and the Himalayan seems to be the go bike as first choice. Don’t know how I’ll feel with so few horses, but I’ll ride anything for fun. Just down sized from KTM 1290 SAR to 890 Adventure R. Love it
