Inspired by another thread , I thought it would be fun to list your top / favourite Motorcycle sporting rivalries..
Please name just one to give others chance to comment and add there own although you can list from different disciplines so here we go .
From road racing
Barry Sheene vs Kenny Roberts ..needs no explanation just legends
From Moto Cross
Stefan Everts vs Sebastian Tortelli
France versus Belgium for the 250cc world Championship think it was 98 or 99 .. A season long ding dong with Tortelli the victor .. one of the few men capable of beating Everts on the day . Watched the British round of this at Foxhill .. Stefan is a hero of mine 10 times world champion. ( think about that 10 times ) but Sebastion was a hard rider ..
Go on ... name em |

"Ooo good thread, will have a think on that but one would be Troy Bayliss vs Colin Edwards for the superbike championship in 92"
Yeah great great season and all down to the wire in race 2 .. might be a bit of a typo there though my friend it was 02 not 92 ..
I can even remember where I was that day .. Stoked for Edwards |

Absolutely has to be Oliver Jacque and Shina Nakano in the 250cc world championship decider in Australia 2000
Two Yamahas, two team mates, one champion, one seriously nervous team manager - epic racing |

Scott Russell and Carl Foggarty were very much arch rivals in the early 90's.
Look at the rivals Valentino has had and he seen them all of except for Marquez.
Another one I just thought of was Kenny Roberts and the young upstart Freddie Spencer for the 1983 500Gp championship. They were both awesome.

I was a huge Kawasaki fan at the time , so I was a little bit torn on that one .. Got to say Carl Fogarty is right up there with the greats .. If that Cagiva hadn’t have broke down at the British GP .. ?? .. who knows where he could of ended up ..
He even won I’m a celebrity !! How on earth did he do that !!! |

With you all the way on James Stewart .. inventor of the bubba scrub ..
And up against Ricky Carmichael.. Whom was arguably the fastest mx rider on the planet at the time ..
Great rivalries those ..and yeah Everts Greatest of all time ever .. who else could win a world championship and then enter the Six Days for a bit of fun and end up winning it against enduro specialists like Salimein and Knighter ..

Everts should of won 11 world titles, remember when they was running one race per class and three quarters of the way through the season started racing the 250 as a warm up to his mxgp race and won every race he raced in, to this day still the best most skillful rider I have ever witnessed
And I’m fortunate enough to of seen most of the best including steward RC ETC. and don’t forget bayle as well mx world champion and Moto Grand Prix winner |

Two of my favorite riders. Both underdogs but always put up a fight.
I still have my 996R and yes I do have a Shoei TLD Russel replica helmet.

Look at the rivalry between Schantz and Rainey, they hated each other that much. Schwantz admitted that he would have to cross the road, rather than walk past Rainey in the street.
Shame about Rainey's crash, as Schwantz was never the same after it. |

Doohan vs Biaggi 1998 season on the 500s . The best season for a while ruined due to some dodgy yellow flag waving ... Could Max have curtailed Doohans championship run ... we will never know ..
When he took that debut victory in Japan Biaggi knocked football of the back pages of the Italian press ... |

"Loads of good ones but few stand outs
Schwantz - Rainey
Capirosi - Harada
Rossi - Biaggi
Hodgson - Walker
Rickardson - Crump - Pederson "
Hodgson vs Walker .. was that not the cruelest turn of fate when the Suzuki stopped in the final race .. Did anyone not feel for Chris as he walked back to the pits ..
Good to see the Speedway making an appearance |

Actually met Foggy. And actually more of a nice guy than you would think. Just very focused, as any world beater has to be. |

I went to school with him and he was a bit of a Dick, even back then.
At least he's humble enough now to admit that.
Away from all the racing he's turned into a decent bloke. |
