I usually go via Singapore. Arrange for a few hours between flights, and get a room in the hotel in the terminal. A shower and a chance to lie down for a bit makes a huge difference.
Premium economy costs a fortune, but the leg and elbow space are worth it.
There's now a direct 17 hour flight from Heathrow to Perth. I haven't tried it yet, but family members say it's the way to go. |

My best flight over the past 20 yrs of to and fro'ing was Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong for a 36 hour stop over. We landed at 730pm, made our way to hotel in Kowloon then went out for dinner and a few bevvies and then slept well overnight, sightseeing all day, flew on to oz about 2200 local time. Nil jetlag. |

I just came back from a year in Australia.
Flew Cathay from Manchester. 5hr stop over in HK
Virtually zero jet lag going, more Jet lag coming back but nothing to unbearable.
It's a long haul trip with usually a stop over depending on what area in Australia you're going.
Definitely research before going.
Cathay, Singapore, Emirates and Qatar are probably the most popular within a reasonable price range.
I liked Cathay, would fly with them again. |

I travel to Sydney once a year and fly Qantas. You have the choice of the A380 flight via Singapore if you wanted a day or so stop over , or alternatively their new non stop flight to Perth with onward connections to the East Coast.
The A380 does make the long flight much more comfortable in my opinion. |

I've done too many times to count, best advice expect it to be hell, anything better is a bonus...
I'd Fly Thai and stop in Bangkok as easy access from airport.

As for the flight itself, I'd recommend eating throughout the flight (generally sticking to their scheduled meal times helps.)
Id recommend doing your best not to look at how long the flight has remaining.
For my first long-haul to Sydney I did and it felt like forever. If you ignore it & get on with whatever you're doing (i.e. Napping, eating, watching films, reading) - the time settles in to a lesser degree. |

I flew with Korean Air from NZ to UK. They have the most leg room in economy of all the airlines I believe. It was really comfortable.
Cheap and also got free night in hotel in Seoul included in flight over to UK.
Am sure it would be the same to Oz as well, |

I don’t think there is anything you can do to avoid the jet lag especially if you’re flying straight here. Stay for as long as possible. Personally I get as d*unk as I can on the flight as I hate flying. I’m sure it’s not the best idea though!
Choose A380 aircraft as there is much more space plus you can do a bit of walk which is good. Choose a seat to the front of the aircraft as there is less engine noise.
Buy wax earplugs in case you have any screaming kids on board which is likely at Christmas.
You’ll love Australia, the place is clean and tidy the the people are friendly.

Its a long trip the last timer I went I had a stopover and its well worth doing.
Check prices and pay a bit more if you can for a better seat on this length of flight its worth it. |

Malaysia airlines also have the a380 too , very good service onboard , KL is about 13 hrs flight then a hours flight to Langkawi or Penang tropical islands is a must or pangkor laut would be a great stopover to Oz  |

Done direct flight numerous times from Perth to London and back with Qantas. Really prefer to stopping off. So much time wasted with connecting flights and going through security check again. Would recommend for sure. Where are you coming to over here in Australia.? |

I think now most flights over 7 hours have mandatory Airbus 380 .
Emirates from Birmingham to Dubai 7 hours , from Dubai you have two options
Dubai to Singapore 7 hours and Singapore to Australia 7 hours
Or Dubai to Australia 14 hours .
We are thinking of taking break journey as long haul flight will defo increase the anxiety . |
