Yep, they did. Now just like the GFA many think that it is fine to do a Trump and tear up legally binding agreements and there will be no blowback. |

the problem is the fisherman want all the quota's back, but if that happens the EU have said if they do it they will apply tarrifs of the fish they want to sell.... and bearing in mind 80-85% of all the fish caught is sold to the EU.... that is going to cripple them!
they got greedy.... saw one side without thinking of the consequence, which is why the fishermen ended up being for brexit, but the farmers decided being against.... |

80-85% is sold to other countries thats why it is so expensive to buy here 
Eat less meat they say but they make fish more expensive |

I'm in favour of us taking control of our coastal waters and if that means a tariff on British fish and a reduction in fish caught then so be it .I think we need to manage our fish stocks in a sustainable way and preserve what's left of our inshore fleet. |

BREXIT to restore fishing quotas eh....

A HUGE fuss is being made over the “betrayal” of Britain’s fishing industry with foreign boats allowed to continue harvesting our waters for 21 months after we leave the EU.
But it turns out that foreign firms already own a big slice of British fishing rights and will continue to do so permanently. Why? Because British companies sold their quotas. Spanish firms own 88 per cent of Welsh fishing rights and most of the quota from the Bristol Channel to the Scottish border.
Dutch and Icelandic firms control most of our East Coast fishing. European seas are split into sectors and governments hand out quotas specifying how much of each type of fish can be caught. Unlike in other countries the Environment Department allows any or all of its quotas to be sold to foreign trawler firms.
“England and Wales have mismanaged their fishing quota and Brexit will do nothing to put it right,” says law lecturer Tom Appleby.
The fishing industry has largely gone the way of so much of British business, manufacturing and utilities that have been sold off to Chinese, American and other foreign investors with the approval of successive governments.
No use moaning about it now because the family silver has long gone in return for a quick but one-off profit.

The fishing rights should never have belonged to individual fishermen, if that was the case it was wrong. Our waters belong to us, and after BREXIT should be fished by our fishermen only. The government should charge a licence fee, and with the exception of anglers using rods and lines, anyone fishing our waters should own one.
We do eat a lot of fish in this country, unfortunately we are buying fish caught in our waters by foreign trawlers and sold back to us cheaper than those currently on offer from our own fleets. |

We've even started getting tuna turning up a little further to the west and I can guarantee they are not European like the French bass that cruise our shores looking to pick off our local fish for lunch.
