UK residents, prepare to lower your standards. My thoughts seem to be supported about food and other standards getting reduced, post brexit.

Groups looking to conclude agreements with other countries, particularly the USA, with what are termed the 'shadow trade talks' has published its draft plan, which involves the UK lowering its EU standards, to match those of the US, thus allowing hormone treated meat, chlorinated chicken etc into the UK.

The body, made up of agents such as the Heritage Foundation, which has pushed for the lifting of environmental protections, is busy working away, so that there's no potential loss of business, presumably, if brexit happens on time. Also involved is the Cato Institute, funded by the US's multi-billionaire Koch bothers.

The EU condition, where something has to be proven as safe, is also to be stopped. In future it would mean that someone has to prove it's dangerous, so anything could be sold until that point.

Greenpeace's investigative unit uncovered the published standards that UK residents may be happy to aspire to, post brexit.

It's not just food standards lowering, it's about a broad trade deal. Your concept obviously applies to everyone in your country, so there won't be any dangers

I must have missed the class at school when they taught you how to make choices about these things:

Divorce

Unemployment

Accident

Mental illness

Sickness

Death

Your talents

Where you are born

How much your parents earn

How much your parents care

If you are abused as a child

Except growing on a small scale, as I've done all of my life, can also be affected by factors outside or our control, such as weather etc, so there may not always be availability of our own home grown food.

If these groups get their way, the UK would have lowest common denominator, with standards lowered throughout, so whilst there may seemingly be choice, it will likely become less transparent just what we may be consuming.

UK and EU standards don't just cover food of course, so it can become a widespread reducing in standards, a race to the bottom.

Go on, say some other derogatory generalisation about people less fortunate than you. It's all so constructive.

Impressive use of some words to express something angry.

I won't point out the weakness on your "argument" as you're doing a great job yourself.

To put this so bluntly that even you might understand it... so people might not have a hand to wipe their arse, so yes, they might need help.

Now, yes, that is a pretty extreme case, but was to illustrate the point.

Let's try a slightly less extreme case. My son was mid-way through first year of his a-levels when stuck down with a condition that has left him blind. Yes, he can wipe his own arse and doesn't need your help for that. But getting around town? Needs a bit more help than your average person.

You want to let him lose with a shotgun to go shoot some wild deer on your land? Sure, go ahead. I'll stand in the next county.

The general 'piss on the fire Jack, my sausages are done' attitude of some people in the country really is appalling. Some people just don't understand the privileges they have, and are completely out of touch with the rest of society.

Alright, you say we should all rear and slaughter our own meat, tell you what, i'll get a few rough and ready types from urban areas and we'll just pop up your way and take whatever we can get.

Life choices? Fuck it. The strong will do what they will and the weak suffer what they must and if youre happy to let others suffer I'll happily steal the 'good life' from you.

Do you have kids/grandkids and see them much? Either way I feel sorry for them.

Relinquish your privilages to help them or tell them to suck it up and stand up themselves?

It's the masses who will be caught unawares of the more deranged privileged few who are working hard behind the scenes to overturn years of progress.

They'll be fine - campaign groups with enormous power and individuals with unearned vast wealth. These narcissists can be ignored but for their power. Don't allow the shite outpourings from dangerous minds to become normalised.

Consumer standards are important, as are health and food. We should leave the worst excesses of the past behind us, where ignorance reigned.

I'd wondered if a thread on empathy would be interesting and how you're endowed, or not, with it. This one should suffice.

You are making an assumption that the unknown to anyone poster on this anonymous forum is actually presenting anything like the true persona behind the keyboard.

This person could just as easily be an alter ego personality of any bored individual, of any demographic, living anywhere in the world.

It is in fact my experience that those who attained some degree of success in life rarely crow to strangers about how wonderful their lives are. It is just not human nature to do so.

It's perhaps no surprise that many forum users don't actually visit and post on this sub-section. There's a lot of intelligence, including emotional, elsewhere. This area seems a fuckwits backwater, with some unusual specimens, alongside other gifted thinkers and communicators. I'm frequently impressed here.

Data revealed from the USA show 15% of the USA population infected from food each year, compared to 1.5% in the UK.

They have a legal loophole that allows Salmonella to be continue in the food chain.

Other delights:

Meat destined for the human food chain found riddled with faecal matter and abscesses filled with pus

There are thousands of violations of basic food standards, too numerous to list the many types here.

So those eager to get deals arranged with the USA may wish to rethink what they may get to consume in the near future. Of course, the UK will be free to negotiate and source food from other countries, which will have different standards and issues to the USA.

If our standards were lowered to the level of the USA, the UK could expect 10 x the level of food ingested infections. On the other hand, it's feasible that the UK wouldn't receive the best of the US food - you could instead get the crap foisted on you. 1 in 7 Americans get infections from food each year: do you want the same or worse
